Is it OK as long as you say that your website is an Advertorial?
I still see a lot of fake advertorial landers.

The fake news sites have all emigrated to other countries, but I still see Advertorial landers on major ad networks...
So what is the deal with them?
They have the whole Hog.. Reviews, testimonial, news report type content...

So what sthe deal with these fake landers.. These used to be a raze sometime in 2010 2011, and one ad network even owned one major site, but had all vanished.. But they are back again...

Straight from their sales page.

Sellers must disclose five key items of information in a simple, one-page document:
  • the seller's identifying information;
  • whether the seller makes a claim about the purchaser's likely earnings (and, if the seller checks the "yes" box, the seller must provide information supporting any such claims);
  • whether the seller, its affiliates or key personnel have been involved in certain legal actions (and, if yes, a separate list of those actions);
  • whether the seller has a cancellation or refund policy (and, if yes, a separate document stating the material terms of such policies); and
  • a list of persons who bought the business opportunity within the previous three years.
Lol @ a list of persons who bought the business opportunity within the previous three years.

I guess this is for bizopps but that's what most advertorials look like to me.

Does anyone have something to read up on regarding image ad regulations? That recent military issue has got me paranoid.

There is no regulation on Image Ads. Nobody would have guessed that, that guy was dead.. may his soul rest in peace..
The thumb rule is that..
You just can't use image that don't belong to you.
But then nobody uses stock image or model pics for those ads.

advertorials are not allowed by the ftc...

if you do not live in usa however... nothing they can do..

ad networks claim the first amendment. They are not hosting the page.

I guess the question is, what criteria fits an advertorial. Technically it's an editorial/review of a product or service that's indirectly tryin to acquire a lead or sale? Amirite? I see no harm in them if you do them correctly, John help us knewbs out.. :)

An advertorial for Netflix with an accurate description of the service is different than one saying that someone lost 50 pounds in a week.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advertorial

it's true you can claim that you can lose 2.5lbs a week not 50.

2.5*12=30.

so one can say lose 30 lbs in 90 days without exercise.

name one landwhale that would not take you up on that offer.

edit: in my travels I came upon on of those 'sites' that looks like blog/news site (have lots of 'content') and up top it says advertorial. in small type

Every single flog I do has to have "advertorial" or "advertisement" across the top. As well as a disclaimer in the footer stating the story isn't real. Among other things. But yeah, they are really cracking down lately...
