Pissed off at Asus/MediaMarkt - should I be?

If it's got 4 RAM slots, it may need all 4 populated. Sometimes if you only use 3 the mobo 'ignores' the 3rd stick. Try borrowing a 4th stick and see if you can get 16GB before you return it.

Although yeah an i5 with 16/12 GB is like putting chrome 22's on a car worth $5k.

Leave my LeBaron out of this.

On topic, Asus is the shit!

What do you guys think? Am I right to be angry about the incomplete spec sheet and the ignorance of the MediaMarkt staff, or should I just let it slide and make do with 8Gb (after all, the other four gig probably wouldn't have made that much difference)?

if the spec sheet is indeed incomplete/wrong, you have every right to be upset w/ them and should demand they take it back, as you didn't receive what was described..

at the same time, you should probably calculate your computing requirements before you decide to buy an extra 12gb of ram.. whats the fucking point if you don't need it at all?

absolutely agree

ASUS FTW

Best boxes for the money I've ever owned, and I've owned every major brand over the last 25+ years. My favorite laptop by far, and never a problem with the last three I've purchased (all from BestBuy).

Oh, did I mention the money?

I find it hard to believe that it will only accept 8gb because of the processor but agree with the previous posted who said you need to run the memory in pairs because of the dual channel memory controller. Just grab the extra RAM, it's not more than €20 for 4gb, and stick it in there. If it works, great, if not, sell it on ebay and recoup part of your expense. Or not, because it's only €20.

ASUS fucking rocks. Every PC I've ever built has had an ASUS mobo and video card combo. So will the next one.

Actually, scratch that, it should run with an odd number of dimms since it comes with only one. I dunno. I still find it unlikely that it won't take 16gb especially if that's not described anywhere in the literature. €20 to find out for sure.
