Thailand vs Hawaii

Green sand beach: Will do.

Kapoho? Sounds dangerous; at least for hos.

How many people live there, I could not find the number doing real quick search, that means number is so small that everybody knows everybody there, how come any violance possible from locals toward locals?

There's about 100k on that island. The town we grew up in probably has 10 or 20k. Most people know each other there but it doesn't matter if you're local, if you're white there will always be someone who doesn't know you that will be a dick. You just have to be smart and know how to play the game and you'll get by fine.

If you're coming from somewhere else and going to a place outside of Honolulu you're going to need to learn the intricacies quickly. That's why I recommend Honolulu because why deal with that if you don't have to?

I have wanted to see Hawaii's unique scenes like the Green-sand beach, the observatories, the rainforest jungles and dive Molokini, but I keep hearing that if you stray from the tourist spots like Waikiki you can get fucked over real fast just for being white.

If I'm only going for the resorts then I can do better in Thailand.... For 1/3rd the price.

I've spent ~4 weeks on Oahu (my least favorite island), ~2 on Kauai, ~ 6 on Maui, and ~3 on the big island. I've drift dove the back wall of Molokini and cruised all around. Save for some beach parks at night there isn't a place I've ever felt unsafe, at all.

Honestly I have no idea what you're talking about UNLESS you're a rude jackass. Hawaiians hate arrogant rude mainlanders.

Respectful people who appreciate the culture, ocean and lifestyle? Nope , I've never had a problem.

I doubt LukeP is a dick. If you think people in Hawaii don't know how to act you're either trying to act like you're too cool or you didn't stay here long enough to see the real Hawaii.

^^This is a perfect example of people here who act like cavemen. Of course violent crime happens everywhere but senseless crimes like this happen more than you can imagine.

I can not find anything in that article that indicates race motivated murder.

If you grew up here you wouldn't even have to have witnessed it to know that it was motivated by race. But let's assume that it wasn't, this guy attacked another guy for taking pictures in a public place. Caveman.

Unless there is reason to think he is trolling I would tend to listen to the person with local knowledge.

I vacationed in Maui once. It was nice but kind of boring for me due to so many Japanese honeymoon couples. Didn't go local so have no experience how locals treat whitey. At the resorts they are all very nice 'cuz that's their job of course.

I grew up in Kapoho too. How old are you? I never really had any bad experiences, I just witnessed a lot of it and it was more annoying than anything. I would prefer to just not be around people like that.

Small world! Our house was right across the street from Green Mountain, near four corners. I used to hike up there as a kid.

I was in Kapoho / Hilo from 1986 to 1999. I'm currently 29, so I was young. I did get bullied like maybe once at Pahoa elementary. But I started going to St. Joe's in Hilo at Jr. High.

Luke there's plenty for white people to do on the Big Island, yeah even in Kapoho. The nearest town, Pahoa, probably has more hippies, Rastafarians, and Filipinos than Hawaiians.

I went to Pahoa and St. Joe and lived in Beach Lots too. I'm gonna PM you.

EDIT: Plus 90% of those ladies probably have a cock. I'd go to hawaii just on the basic principle of being able to have a few drinks without succumbing to mass paranoia on whether every girl walking up to you wants to ass rape you with her tool. Or whatever IMers in Thailand are into.

Thailand is heavy with this risk. But don't discount Hawaii, namely downtown Oahu in Waikiki - plenty of "Mahus" here, too.

Oahu (the main island) is the only island with an actual "downtown". Someone here said there are a lot of bums, and there are, but not EVERYWHERE in Oahu. I don't like warm weather in the winter time though, and if you're the same, than this might bother you. Lots of military (Army, Navy, Marines) stationed on Oahu. Plenty of tourists, but they typically migrate around the downtown area. Oahu has a countryside, great surf (North Shore), and 'burbs so you can find a lot of normalcy here.

Hawai'i (the big island) is much more country-like. The locals are a little friendlier here and it is a bit more scenic than Oahu, imo. Some military and tourists scattered about.

Maui and Kaua'i are supposed to be gorgeous and great for vacationing on the low-key, but I've yet to visit.

Ni'ihau is a no-go unless you're a native Hawaiian (they don't let outsiders visit).

I don't know too much about the other four islands.

Also, many Hawai'ians carry a very strong local pride. It's not to say they'll go aggro on your ass, but generally they prefer their own versus outsiders. Oh, and they fight in groups (always) - so run away yelling "Train!".

Why do the Samoans hate on whites? South Africa thing or what?

I always thought Hawaii would be awesome if you had the money. Fine beaches, scenery, diving and bitches from all over the world including those fine J-girls. May have to reconsider.

I'm not really sure where all of the hostility came from. I know that they're taught local history differently than the rest of U.S., and there might be some resentment towards the acquisition of their island - which wouldn't make much sense - but who knows?

Hawaii is still pretty cool though. Not as many good looking women as I would've thought - tourists typically. But the quality of prostitutes is quite refined!

Those who hate don't like whites exactly for that same reason - they are "outsiders" or even occupants in "their" island. I thought this was common knowledge, surprised that somebody even wonder about it :)

My opinion is that had we not aquired Hawai'i, they would've ended up enslaved to China. It's kind of like telling a black American "Hey, good thing your ancestors were slaves, or else you'd still be living in Africa!"

Nonetheless, there is definitely some resentment - but I've still made some good friendships. Good apples, bad apples.
