I'm starting a theme/skin website that will sell Wordpress, vBulletin and other themes. I'm just starting with Wordpress themes for now. If I sold each individual theme for $14.99, how many of you would buy some?

:anon.sml:

There are so many WP themes out there for free that a theme would have to be absolutely STELLAR for me to whip my wallet out.

I'm not trying to discourage you; just giving an honest reply.

OTOH, I am going to need a custom WP theme in the next week or so that I planned on PMing you about. Would you be interested in that?

Definitely interested in that custom theme, as long as I can showcase it in the custom work section on the new site ;)

As for the theme needing to be absolutely stellar, I don't plan on producing anything short of top quality.

Never ever bought a theme before because there is so much free stuff around, but why not, if it looks great $14.99 isn't much.

Yes, there is definately a demand for adult related themes, have a look at xLabor.com - Blog Themes

They sell them non-exclusive for $49. If you advertise them as "SEOed templates", they'll even sell better.

There is a huge and steady flow of new adult webmasters and since most adult affiliate programs started offering ready to import RSS feeds for blogs, they a a big hype next to tube style sites.

I think you would sell them easily for that price, all but WP themes
there's a lot of really good free stuff for WP, otherwise you can't find good themes for vbulletin, joomla, oscommerc etc...

Yeah there are just too many free WP themes. People release them for free because they're great for backlinks. Maybe you should release a half dozen or so WP themes and cut your losses if the sales aren't great.

I also plan to create some adult-themed themes once I turn 18, anyone think those could perform well?

Ahahahaha wow. That's getting into the game early. :D

I don't think WP themes would sell very well, so don't focus on those. But as has been said, there is a lot of other software that could be skinned: vBulletin, IPB, phpBB, osComerce, joomla, drupal, mambo....just to name a few. :xomunch: Just look in your fantastico and you'll see all you need.

Yea I'll bump that, you'd have a much better shot with themes for a CMS that is harder to design for. Go on the freelance websites (GAF, RAC, Elance, etc) and see what the boys overseas are bidding for design projects in joomla, mambo, osc, etc. and then set your pricing. Offer pricing for the as-seen-here templates and then offer custom edits maybe on a per-hour basis.

I think they'd have to be waaaay out there themes to serve niche audiences, ya know? Mainstream WP themes are a dime a dozen (good for linkbacks though). But perhaps you could somehow invent a unique niche of WP themes and plugin / widget integration so that for $15-50 per copy, I could get a ready-to-install super site.

You might want to also talk to some hosting providers that do native WP installations, and see if you can build them exclusive themes for their customers. I'm sure a few of the hosting companies are looking for any edge that they could get - exclusive professionally designed WP themes might be worth a good chunk of change to them.

I've already had this plan a couple weeks ago and I'm pretty sure you can pull in some coin doing it, if you can get enough free themes to push your search engine rankings up, while having professional themes to sell, the average wordpress theme on the so called pro sites average $50 bucks a pop and $600 to $700 unique price, thats just fucking insane in my mind.

I've checked several sites, as many as I could find and all have the same basic prices for wordpress so there seems like there could be a market to under bid them.

I just don't have any real time to finish up a site for this type of thing so I might as well tell you the bit of knowledge I do have on it, I also even bought professionalwordpresstheme.com who knows maybe in time I'll develop it or sell it.

Yeah, Aequitas, monstertemplates sells unique templates at over $1k a pop. To some people, they have enough money to invest in their business that having a quality unique template is worth it. And hey, I'm pretty sure they would rather buy a template ready to go for their CMS than get one at monstertemplates.

So this definitely has potential. Just find the right software to market to.

I think the smartest thing will be to contact monstertemplates or somebody else and sell your templates there for unique prices.. --> You'll never get attention like there on your own!

If you sell one theme more times eventually it will get listed on free template sites, so it's no good job..

Indeed, adult blogs are hot right now,.. When you'll turn 18 the buzz will be over! Start now!

Don't do it, Tyler L has scammed many people at Talkfreelance.

When will you TalkFreelance kids get off my fucking ass (actually most of them have, but you're getting pretty annoying in particular). I can't even go into CWD without getting some stupid ass remark from one of you. Let me point this out for you:

Not finishing work because of time issues and refunding the money, and scamming, are not the same thing.

It's been well over half a year since this whole thing happened. I've completed a lot of successful transactions since, some of them with TF members. I haven't had one complaint about any of my services here at WickedFire and I plan to keep it that way. I even offer 100% payment after completion to anyone who is uncomfortable with my past dealings. If you want someone to harass about their business, go get on Chris Welch's ass for keeping clients waiting 6 months between single updates. Also, while you're at that, stop talking to me entirely. I'm fucking sick of you.

You can't think like that man, sure its easier to use a different site to sell your own themes but there is still room to break into the theme industry, you've just got to be creative and be willing to give your site time to grow because in the theme industry your going to need a lot of backlinks, thats one of the reasons why those sites have a whole wack load of free templates to download and if they don't then I can almost gaurentee you they've got a seperate site for it to boost the other sites rankings.

Alternatively, you could give the WP themes away and sell sponsorship of the themes. I've been seeing that a lot lately on themes I download.
