SEOmoz gone wild

their financials are pathetic

I highly doubt that Brad Feld would have written that check if he agreed.

Unless you can build pain points in and keep stacking increasing value over time, your users can and will leave you.

This is why I keep telling people that the whole SEOmoz blog crap / Rand acting like a crusader for "white hat" SEO is (for at least some portion) just a show to keep these people interested and to keep new ones coming.

Shit like Penguin doesn't hurt their business model, either...

their financials are pathetic, they made $18mn last year and profited like $200k

I think they are sitting pretty at this point.

They've built their brand into the powerhouse in the industry.

I've been watching their progress with the software and subscription model and they've finally got it dialed in.

Big respected brand + subscription product that requires minimal work to maintain = happy campers.

Not to mention they have all the consulting and whatnot to diversify.

They really have 60 employees though?

I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of their staff are quasi-famous industry people that add authority through their association with SEOmoz.

Rand Fishkin is an idiot about SEO, but he is a great marketer.

Wouldn't you love for Rand to show up on Shark Tank.

"UM YES THAT'S CORRECT, 18mil in rev, 200k profit"
