Not true because as Cardine pointed out even if you jailbreak the iPad it is not friendly for tasks like coding.

iPad thus far has been fairly useless for business purposes. I mean yeah they use those sometimes and iPods at restaurants with that order software, but i'm talking people on planes and trains and shit who need to type and save files and email them easily. You could jailbreak your iPad and do all that noise but most people just bring a laptop along to wherever the fuck they are going if they got real shit to do. (Kenny Powers stuck in my head lol)

What nickycakes/cardine pointed out is most important aspect of this new device and the #1 reason this shit will go crazy when it's released: You can actually use it as a real windows laptop.

So here's Microsoft producing their own shit that will eventually fuck over the laptop companies. Thats where the bulk of customers will come from, people who don't need laptops anymore because they can finally do that shit on a tablet hybrid that works.

You can do everything with an iPad or android tablet but things you cant do easily or at all: Adobe Photoshop, Diablo 3, FruityLoops, etc.

Laptops = dead

p.s. I am buying this device and getting rid of both my iPad and laptop when it's released. I do exactly those things minus Fruityloops on my laptop, and on my iPad I watch tv and read before bed. Surface will be sufficient to replace both devices.

It would be great to see Microsoft eventually release their own full blown laptops to compete with all the SHIT out there. Finally we might see some build quality on a par with the unibody Macbooks. Imagine a solid magnesium Windows 8 laptop, they will have to include a jizz protector for the unboxing.

They already have Vizio building that without all the bloatware that comes with other OEMS.

Microsoft is coming out with an ipad competitor and giving the ipad office, the one thing that might sway people towards a questionable product.

Laptops hardly == dead.

It's not ideal to code on the ipad yet, but there are apps that are plenty good enough for maintenance on the road or simple projects.

LOL at planning to replace equipment with a product never touched, used or even seen in person.

and it's not just HP. It's acer, asus, samsung, htc. Everyone who does ARM will refuse to work with MS now.

I really hope they can ship enough office licenses. For their own sake.

LOL at the geeks tearing HP and the other OEMs a new one on that page... You'd think HP shot all their mommies.

I gotta agree with them though, MS makes killer hardware like Apple does, and if OEMs can't get the job done we shouldn't be mad at MS for making a superior product... Even if they did have an unfair advantage over the OEMs.

Hope to see HP and Dell making Linux-only products soon. :thumbsup:
 
Its going to have to be pretty damn good to come close to the iPad as far as sales, etc. Not sure what is out now, but I looked at ton at Christmas for my wife and there were very few close to iPad in my opinion. I am sure Android has some good ones out now, but they will still lack in the app area for another year or so. Then it will get interesting...
 
Actually looking forward to this.. Seem's like an iPad that you can actually use for business use..
