Massive shooting in Colorado during The Dark Knight, 14 dead

So, how do you define violence? And after that, what is too violent?

Here's my shot at quantifying that, for what it's worth

I don't think that's the best quantifier. We (US) spend a shitton of money on weapons and research we'll never use. In practice though, yeah the chart supports the assertion.

Violence as I see it is much more philosophical, which is why I asked for a definition first and not a statistic. For example, is a violent threat violent?

When talking about the United States, please realize, we are a country of many different states. Most of our states are the size of different countries in Europe, so it would be best to compare ALL of Europe to ALL of the United States if you REALLY want to be honest.

Furthermore, gun laws can be VERY state specific in the US. States like Illinois , California, New York, New Jersey, Maryland and Hawaii would make any European jump for joy with their restrictions. In other states, some municipalities have enacted extremely strict enforcement as well. Not all of the continental US consists of gun-toting rednecks.

Note, that the #1 US state has a median murder rate lower than ANY European country. The 4 states with the lowest crime rates in the US have very little gun control, and all allow for CCW permits to be issued.

If you REALLY want to look at gun crime as a whole, you start to learn it's more about socio-economic issues than it is about whether guns are accessible to the public or not.

Another example I would like to show everyone is :

Australia 1.23 New Zealand 1.25

Now, out of these two countries, one makes it EXTREMELY hard to own or posses firearms. The other allows the majority of citizens to own handguns, rifles, shotguns , belt fed machine guns and anti aircraft missiles. Statistically speaking, these two countries have near-identical crime rates, yet one of them is significantly more lax on guns. If you compare socio-economic issues, both countries are nearly identical in terms of PPP, GDP and wage gaps.

People who obey gun laws and have CCW don't shoot up fucking movie theaters.

Furthermore, there are too many guns in America to ever get rid of them all.

Guns are here to stay, much to the dismay of liberals.

Tyrone Johnson, sitting at the bus stop or slagnin crack rocks in the hood, doesn't give a fuck about your gun laws. The only suckers that give a shit about gun laws are the same suckers who don't do drive by shootings and kill people over drug turf.

Keep up the idiocy with the gun laws. Eventually the only people with guns are going to be drug dealers and stickup kids. Everyone else will have to leave their guns locked in a safe at home with the clips in a separate locked safe.

You see all the crazy semi-auto rifles Aaron Kelly has? Mother fucker posts a new picture on his facebook everyday with some new crazy military grade gun he's bought or shooting. Guess what? Aaron Kelly isn't going to fucking rob me or kill my family. However, Tyrone butt fuck from the ghetto doesn't give a shit about your sissy ass gun laws and he will fucking kill me for my wallet or my car or whatever the fucking reason is.

I live in Denver. A cop was shot in the face and died a few weeks ago by some porch ape less than 500 yards from my house. This shit happen literally across the street from me. Since I have a felony on my record, I'm not legally allowed to carry/own a gun. So I have to decide when I leave the house everyday "Well, I can carry this gun and risk 10 years in prison if I get pulled over with it, or I can just hope some piece of shit doesn't try and car jack me at 7-11 and blow my face off".

I have no violent past, I'm not going to rob anyone or kill anyone. Yet I can't legally protect myself from the scum in this city, to protect myself I need to either risk imprisonment or not leave the house at all.

Felony for weed = not allowed to own a firearm = hope for the best when you leave the house.
America home of the free, amirite?

Fuck you and your gun laws.

Strange bit of news related to the Aurora episode...

Last month, a girl named Jessica Ghawi was at a food court in Eaton Centre in Toronto. She left her seat. A few moments later, a gunman sat down in her seat and opened fire into the crowd. You can find Ghawi's impressions of the event at her blog here.

She was one of the fatalities in Aurora.

Good grief. That is wildly coincidental.

Is that a second person that was previously almost shot that died in Aurora? The blogger being the other?

Maybe there is much more to this guys shooting spree? One a coincidence, but two out of 13?

^No, young batman's parents were shot and killed at the theatre.

Anyone think this nutcase was just trying to make the world a better place by doing this to the children of the victims that night? Given the choice of movie, you really just can't rule that out...

@Gun haters: Governments go bad 100% of the time, bros. 100%. You can't escape it, you can only plan to survive it if it happens in your lifetime. (And guns would really come in handy then, wouldn't they?)

You poor saps that don't have freedom of gun laws, your country is closer to the top of the list.

Also: The USA isn't even close to being the only place with gun freedom. There are over 100 countries that let their citizenry be armed!

Oh, sorry tyGoldberg, the parents of Bruce Wayne (who is also Batman, goldberg) were shot outside of a theater.

Here is a Yahoo source: How do Bruce Wayne's parents die? - Yahoo! Answers

As for Spiderman's parents,
While on a mission to investigate Albert Malik, the third Red Skull, they posed as traitors and double agents to infiltrate his criminal organization in Algeria. Unfortunately they were discovered. Malik framed them and brought in an assassin called the Finisher to kill the two. Finisher sabotaged their airplane and caused it to crash. They were subsequently declared missing in action/presumed dead[1], as two burnt bodies were found in the remains.
