its been a while since I watched a IMAX movie but am going with my friends this weekend for dark knight rises. Since it has over 1 hr of IMAX footage, I dont want to miss anything.

Currently most of the seats on the back upto row J are booked but am getting some seats in row K in middle. I heard its better to watch IMAX movies from the middle but is closer to the screen good or bad.

Row K is like 4th row from the screen.

There are seats available in the back rows but they are not in the middle. What do you guys suggest?

BTW this is not a IMAX DOME theater, its just a normal IMAX as i understand

Here is the seat plan at this moment:

A few interesting studies out of the University of Michigan suggest that... you are over-thinking this. Just go watch the movie and don't sit in the front.

figure out where the emergency exits are. pick place farthest away from all of them. bring kevlar just in case.

if your too close, it looks a little blurry. The back is good, in the middle. 4th row from the screen... waste of money.

Screen is very large. Sit too close and your field of view is smaller than the screen. Sit back. Where the yellow seats in the image are.

I looked into this considerably when they launched the digital screens here in Vancouver, BC. The fact of the matter is, IMAX is actually a lesser quality screen than a Digital screen or UltraAVX.

The only reason to go to IMAX is to feel more "immersed" into the movie. I personally find the screen too big and I can't focus on any one thing in particular. Also, I notice the sound isn't nearly as good as the other 2 theatres I mentioned.

^^^ not all imax is same screen size. The room dimensions, sound system could differ from one to the other. <<??

There is also XD and RDX bigger screens... and sounds systems.. worth trying both of them out.

xd is cinemark, and rdx is edwards. (the xd and rdx have a premium cost)

oh yes... AMC has the ETX bigger screen and better sound system.

Although the sound is somewhat optimized for all seats in the theatre best hearing will be in the center, where you get the full surround effect from every speaker in the theatre. Ideally you would sit in the rows up towards the back but not at the back as that will cut off your rear surround.

Yellow seats are good.
