Guitarists here ? Enlighten me

Go to your local guitar center, try a bunch out and when you find one you like just buy it on craigslist. boss metal zone is my personal fave for rockin' out on some early Metallica and Slayer!

play slowly and carefully, focus on hitting the notes, the quality of the sound, and your timing/rhythm; these things supersede all else

if you can bump up the $$ a bit try out the Line6 Bogner spider amp. They are least TUBE amps have a great sound as opposed to many of the other multi effect amps/processors. you can probably pickup a used one for decent price.

I suggest getting a nice used amp off Craigslist. A JCM 900 combo or a small Mesa Boogie (Subway Rocket I think?) can be found pretty cheap since they're not highly desirable. At least these amps make a descent sound.

I bought a used Dual Rectifier combo for $600 a few months ago. I consider it to be a free rental because it will probably sell for the same price a year from now when I'm sick of it:)-

Thanks guys ! Just got a couple of boss pedals . Really cool :)
Good call on building a pedal board rather than buying a multi effects processor! Not only do multi effects processors suck at tone, but they also often inundate musicians with a surplus of options and variables that often leave you overwhelmed and lost. They also leave important controls tucked away in menus when they should be actual knobs.

What'd you get?

Depending on your style, I'd start with a Crybaby. Then if your amp channels aren't cutting it, I'd add a distortion pedal of your choice. Then I'd add a delay pedal for some fun. Phasers/Tremolos are also fun. Don't forget the importance of a tuner pedal! Being in tune and not having your audience hear you tune are both very important.
