About.com is worth 300M$!

No it is a good site. Great content and rankings for lots of terms.

Makes more sense than a lot of valuations.

I agree with Drake, that price actually makes sense imo. About.com ranks well for loads of keywords. And looks like they make $10+ million a quater as is.

IAC could probably just host the site as it is and bank hard. They could probably make $20 million a quarter if they all they did was host the existing content and ads.

also, lol at anybody that says the content is crap because it isn't as good as wikipedia, or doesn't look like wikipedia, or there are ads on the page, or because the site/pages/articles were created to make money off ads, or any other reason besides the actual quality of the content.

I seriously think the content is crap. It doesn't mean that you cannot make money with that shit.

I would just invest it all in Apple stock.

You would get a way bigger return over the next couple of years.

Yes buying stocks at their all time high share prices, is just like buying websites at their peek. That way you could be just like the "Times"

Crap sells.

I beg your pardon?

They come up in pretty much every single search result and they have been around for ages. The site pretty much runs by itself with all the writers they have pumping new content for them daily. There are so many ways to monetize this site it's not even funny.

I'm actually surprised it was only worth 300m, considering a tool like Instagram gets sold for 1b.
