Why is this some kind of lifestyle to want? Why would marketers be interested in this? We're creative people, we jump around a lot, we're proficient in a lot of stuff. All those jobs look boring as hell. From day trader all the way up to hedge fund CEO. They're only in it for the money and it's just monotonous.

I totally agree with you but its still cool to see other types of occupations. This show is great if you have some time to kill.

Outstanding. Watched the whole thing, best parts are when they're talking about their work. Not so interested in the polo playing preview.

The "difference between sell side and buy side" is one to remember, especially since I recently started working on the buy side for the first time - marketing research software for some market analysts.

(Would love to make some contacts here on WF, btw, for anyone interested; there's a lot of content to create and stuff to slog through.

I started a thread about it a couple of months ago during the somewhat stressful process of landing the gig)

Boring? If you do your shit properly, yes.

Monotonous? Yes and no, if you trade your own accounts then you can get around a lot. I recently spent time abroad with some mates abroad, yet i can still trade my accounts if i want to as long as i have a good connection.

The job IS monotonous and boring if your doing it correctly, but the money and flexibility it allows can take you to many places, and also spend some nice moneys.

And frankly i would not trade for institutions, i simply dont see the point to be excessively stressed. Plus, i hate that polo shit, id rather surf and smoke.

Those are the people that take anti depressants and end up hating their lives... its pretty fuckin clear

Or jail. Guy de Chimay is in some hot water over fraud and Brett Hickey & Tim Sykes went bellyup.

That Tim Sykes guy is funny.

Seems he is touting penny stocks now and making a pretty bad name for himself.

Also - in that doc he made 500$ a day and worried about loosing his apartment (which his mom calls "his room", so 1-room apartment?)

Having his mom over every few weeks to clean and replenish supplies just screams baller.

He's just another clown in my eyes, and a typical marketer (no offense to you guys in the biz).

If i where to make aprox. 500€/day id have to drain my account to a point id be embarassed to even talk about it. Even if i risked 0.1% it would be more than his daily gains :stonedsmilie:

I guess his gains dont cover for fit birds to clean his house, heard these ladies are high-end down NY...

Jokes aside, he aint no pro.

Believe it or not, most pro's avoid the spotlight.

EDIT: On a sidenote, it's pretty entertaining series i must admit. So he does his part well ;-)

No shit. But he has just stated he's not involved in the business. So, again why hang out with a bunch of "clowns"? But maybe you're out to prove him right on the clown part.

He's talking about what the guy is currently doing with his blog. That's how I took it, anyway. Sykes is pushing the MMO angle for stocks.

He's making a general reference to the whole online marketing community, "just another clown", i.e. a clown amongst all the other clowns in online marketing. I'm surprised you didn't take offence to that. He's clearly called anybody in online marketing a clown.

Tim Sykes is a clown, but that's part of his whole strategy. He uses is extravagant personality as part of his brand.

But to say anybody, in online marketing is a clown, is basically making a reference that you're all losers.

So my simple question is/was, if someone thinks what we do is some kind of sad joke, that it's not a legitimate industry or that we're a bunch of losers in general. Then why the fuck would you waste your time here. Doesn't make any sense.

Again, that's not how I took it. I took it as those pitching the same style, products, and MMO-type are clowns.

1) Im not insulting marketers (nor insulting you) by calling marketers 'clowns', im just calling out Sykes AS a marketer more than trader. People are mislead with his education ABOUT trading. Im calling HIM out, and yes, by checking his blog (the bit under "Profit like i do" makes me cringe).

So dont take offense Socialist, i aint got nutin against you nor the marketers here.

2) What am i doing here? Reading interesting things that sometimes appear in the shooting the shit section. I dont 'hang out' on forums but i did catch interest in topics you guys (in general) put in the shooting the shit part.

Believe it or not, theres a lot of intelligent people here and i like to read things non-related to what i do once-in-a-while.

Does that answer your questions?

EDIT: O and by the way. I do have a friend in Costa del Sol that did some kind of online directory exclusively for top-end plastic surgeons and dentists. The money he made at the end of year (it was yearly payments) was in high 7 figures. So no, i dont think marketers are clowns, i think they are smart to survive in this 'jungle'...unfortunately there are a few who take advantage of naive people that want to learn to trade.
