The problem with crossfit is all the idiots that do it, just like any other group or organization.

the only reason I lift weights and watch my diet is to fuck bitches.

bitches are shallow as fuck, and I mean all bitches. You would not believe the amount of clam you get hanging around and feeling all up on your body at the bar when you wear a tight shirt thats gives off the ripple effect.

I was making out with a chick last weekend at a house party in front of her boyfriend.

When I started the gym about a year and 1/2 ago, my personal trainer asked me what my goals were, and I told him flat out: to disrespect women.

never lose sight of that.

that whole health thing is a distant second.

You're awesome bro

I do have to give this to them. They are smart as hell.

You have cults for damn near EVERYTHING, from electronics (Apple) to religion (all of them) to vehicles (Jeep idiots waving at each other or whatever. I'm not a car guy)... it goes on and on

So why not with FITNESS?

So they went and made a fitness cult for all of the obsessive-minded sheep out there.

At the end of the day, I think it's great. They're pushing natural eating, and they're making sexier humans.

Some people do best alone, others who are more "cult-prone" need these types of groups to stay focused. And CrossFit is for them.

I'd say it's made the world a better place at the end of the day. That said, I'll still laugh my ass off at these idiots.

The only fitness program more riddled with flaws and unreasonable training routines is the Marine Corps. "Combat fitness" = 50 year old back problems at age 25.

Those kipping pull-up videos are retarded. There are ways to successfully kip in your pull up where you're not thrashing your shoulders to that extent. If done right, you'll see a nice jump in the number of slow, steady pull ups you can bust out in one go.

5-finger shoes are a fashion statement. You wear them to let people know you're gay.

Sift through some of the cross fit workouts, though. They do have one of the better programs for core building. Those cross fit rings have some great value.

My biggest gripe about cross fitters is that they go to regular gyms and start jump roping with squat racks and juggling with barbells. Without an absolute doubt, their need to validate themselves with style points in a public gym is just silly.

I've spent a lot of money on fitness programs and equipment, some I still use and others were sucker-buys. I do recommend BeachBody's Insanity program for a good cardio session and pretty nice leg burn. Other than that, jump rope and swim. Seriously, it'll shred you and you'll feel great. Then just hit the weights 3x a week and get plenty of food, water, and rest.

If you want pussy, fuck everything I just said and treadmill run, work on biceps, and shred your abs.

99% of videos/pics posted above isnt 'crossfit'. There are huge variances between crossfit gyms and many of them suck bad.

A good example of Crossfit (proper form, no retarded movements):

Before you criticize that, remember none of you are physically capable of doing it :)

That gif illustriates another reason i hate these fkn tards. kipping chins and pull ups is a great way to fkn destroy your shoulder, along with the fkn bastard of a power clean they teach. oh yeah and the weighted squats while standing on a medicine ball, the list of derp ass shit they do is endless.

I think I have that ball squat thing pictured beat, puzzled the shit out of me when I saw it initially.

coolstarrybra.jpg coming up...

In the gym last week doing the usual routine when some sucker and her trainer come in. He has her do some unholy random agility/resistance jumping jack shit thing with dumbbells, the kind of thing trainers seem to be doing a lot of these days to make clients think they are providing value, whatever. He then takes her to the Smith machine, puts a bench under it, flat, raises the barbell about three quarters the way up and puts ten pounds on each side (55 lbs total). Has her lay on the bench, put one foot on the barbell and has her do some abomination of a leg press with it and each time she pushes the bar up she kicks the other leg past it like she was kicking in a chorus line. WTF?

This is actually a cross fit workout worth adopting (overhead squat). It's a beast exercise and you don't have to worry about looking like a fucking clown in the gym while you're doing it.

Start with really low weights, and even do a few warm up sets with the bar though. It'll wear your ass out. Also, the box drills are pretty legit and you can do that shit in your house if you have a few different sizes of sturdy box-like objects.

I come from a "classical" background doing Martial Arts and Bodybuilding.

That said, I applaud the "new" fitness scene that is developing (more focus on compound exercises, bodyweight drills, natural movements, new/old equipment like kettlebells, sandbags, TRX straps, etc...)

There is a lot of new developments and insights in sports science and medicine that support a lot of these and a lot of these are plain fun.

That said...

There is an awful lot of bro-science around. Starting with nutrition (Paleo, etc..), via training the "core" (while valid, it is an overdone staple in any marketing for these fads) and ending with the clusterfuck that is CrossFit.

While some people get seriously shredded doing Crossfit (heavy weights and endurance, who woulda thunk it?), I don't want to know how many are left crippled.

A cornerstone of crossfit, moving heavy weights in complex, compound exercises FOR TIME ... just makes my head hurt. Say goodbye to your health and safety.

TL;DR: New exercise and fitness developments can be great, Crossfit is not. It is a disgrace for the fitness movement and even BroScientists are ashamed of it.

An overhead squat is NOT a crossfit workout. It has been around before.

Many cross fit routines incorporate existing exercises or variations. In the context of this thread, the overhead squat is one of those worth taking from cross fit if your first discovery of the exercise was from cross fit.

^ this is a friendly clarification. I don't do the "who knows more about fitness and nutrition" pissing contest, and I don't think you do either.

You got me wrong here. I do "who knows more" pissing contests all the time.

No really, just misinterpreted your post.

The problem is that CrossFit takes many good exercises and perverts them.

Is a deadlift a great compound exercise? No doubt, when performed correctly.
Should you go heavy? Yes, please do.

Should you do heavy deadlifts for time? FUCK NO. This will lead to nothing but bad form and injury.
