I've read a lot about people's branded domains getting hit, despite ticking all the Authority Site checkboxes. I appreciate it isn't as black and white as that, and they may have had some dodgy backlink profiles or over-optimisation going on as well, but I have a theory that I'd like to share, which could be another factor to consider.
Quite simple, a true brand has people search the name on Google.
If people don't ever find your site by Googling the name of it then that could be a factor which determines whether your site really is a brand that should be valued in the SERPs.
Before I started really building up links to one of my wannabe brand sites I obtained a targeted list of email addresses, and sent about 100 a day for a little over a month.
The email I sent out contained helpful information, with no links at all, but included the brand name at the bottom.
This got plenty of people Googling my site before I amped up my link building efforts.
This could be a contributing factor to the results I've maintained or improved throughout the updates.
What do you think?
