So this guy talks about how there are indications there's error correcting code in the string equations. Basically showing the universe as we know it is a simulation.

It doesn't take too many psychedelics to start coming up with ideas like this on your own. One of my favorites to ponder is quantum immortality: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Many-worlds_interpretation

In a nutshell, assuming the many worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics is the correct interpretation, "you" can never experience your own death. So no matter how unlikely it is for you to survive, you will. Best part is that it can't be disproved without you successfully killing yourself.

In the context of quantum immortality, there is only the self aware consciousness, "I".

Remember this assumes multiple worlds interpretation (basically anything that can happen, does happen in an alternate/parallel universe).

Imagine a game of Russian roulette, where every shot leads to 2 universes, one where the gun went off, one where it did not.

In my experience, if I am watching you play Russian roulette, you will eventually kill yourself. In YOUR experience, every time you pull the trigger, you survive. Even if the bullet is in the chamber, it misfires, or you somehow survive the shot. No matter what, your consciousness only follows the version of reality where you are alive (because it's impossible for your consciousness to exist in a world where you have died). That's why it's impossible to disprove - you would literally have to succeed in ending your own consciousness/life to know for sure.

If you assume that multiverse theory is sound then in a way you will survive but that's semantics. This right here, your subjective experience will end when you die and it won't matter there are infinite versions of you living through it.

Yup, millions of years ago it started showing that organisms with superior pattern recognition have a higher chance of survival. This is a bias that would have to be taken in the equation when reviewing this guy's research. But thing is, once there are complex patterns in play like this chances are there's another issue here.

To believe that Gates has found real ECC code in the fabric of spacetime, you must accept that we do not exist in reality, only on someones' hard drive.

This shit can drive you crazy. I was a physics major for my first two years of college. The summer after my sophomore year I transferred to the University of Colorado and attended a summer course on quantum many-body systems at the Boulder School for Condensed Matter and Materials Physics. That summer seriously fucked me up and I eventually switched majors and separated myself to remain sane. The potential implications of some prevailing theories are absolutely mind blowing. Thanks OP, now I'm going to be hold up in my room with an oz of green for a month. :crap:
