I currently freelance as a graphic designer. I was specifically marketing to niche market but now i am expanding the business to branding and web design. I am looking for small to medium sized companies to brand and or give an online presence. I teamed up with a friend and we produce quality work.

We basically want to drive more sales. So, anyone have any ideas on finding/marketing to start-up companies or existing companies to revamp their design work.

Anyone experienced in this market?

Please view some of my work on facebook to get an idea of market potential.

Graphic Design marketing always seems to use the basic "word of mouth" strategies. Additionally, if you have experience marketing in this field and want to share a few strategies, market tips or your prices for marketing my company, please do.

Get a website, social marketing, build client list, get referrals, cold call, etc. A million ways to do it, just treat it like a real business..

What do you think is the best way to go about social marketing. I do have a facebook and twitter account. I obviously have a large target audience. Are simple mentions on twitter effective?

I was thinking most of the new business would come from cold calling. Do you think email marketing would be more effective?
Not until you have a list, no.

If people care enough about you already, they may be. Try Linkedin too, although once you've done those, you're left with cold calling and sending out leaflets (if on a limited budget, I'd cold call)

How are effective is email marketing nowadays? I need to get a list and email service. I know you can send 500 emails from gmail.com for free but they do not offer any templates. 3500 emails a week would be enough for my business. I was thinking about getting them from yellowpages.com and scrapping them somehow but i guess almost any business email list will do to start off.

Will services like mailchimp or even gmail force the emails directly to the trash?

Get on the phones ;)

Straight up cold calls baby, everyones favorite. Referrals don't come over night. I see you've done a few churches though, excellent source for referrals, but generally, you gotta ask. Point out some sort of specific value you were able to provide, or ask them what value you've added, then use something like this:

"Mr. Client, I hope you've seen some value out of what we've done so far for you guys, and I hope you continue to see potential. Let me ask you, of your congregation, do you have anyone who owns a business? (yes) Would you have any objection to me giving them a call to see if I might be able to benefit them just as we have for you?"

Gotta ask.

Good stuff. That was one of my strategies. I also added a client list to the site with about 25 more logos. I have done over 150. I am going to add some more web design projects.

Google maps find local businesses near you. You should be able to see if they have a website.

If they do, suggest improvements, point out what their competitors are doing.

Slam the phone. I know it sucks. This is the one skill that you must develop.

present some new strategies from 2013 of graffics, or look on google at the top of 2013 design trends... and shere it... i think this year is serching for clean, simply usefull designs, no aggresive... search for concurents fans on facebook add it to your facebook profile and make it your friends, after post in timelines that i write up, with your facebook page...one of the strategy that was come in to my mind now...

do a little research and get on the phones. importantly, be sincere and if you let you energy show thru, you'll get many on your side and before long the referrals will roll in.... goodluck bro.
