tl;dr: Get a full SEO site audit, done by dchuk, by hand, along with one on one Skype consulting time, for $499, and help him hone a plan for a new SEO product in the process. When it launches, you'll get reimbursed with a bunch of free usage of the product.

An Experiment Begins...

I have said this for years: SEO is a game of automation. It's what drew me to the world of SEO in the first place.

I've been tossing around the idea of building an automated SEO site audit tool that can be useful for both consultants/agencies as well as internet marketers with their own sites. While I think serpIQ is an essential part of the SEO toolkit in terms of competition analysis, it's more useful for doing deep, specific keyword analysis instead of overall domain analysis.

I want to build a tool that can analyze your domain and point out all of the low hanging fruit that is holding you back from lots of traffic and profit, a tool that should compliment serpIQ quite well.

So me and the serpIQ team want to build a new SEO Site Audit Tool and we need your help. This offering is a bit different than most BST threads as we aren't selling links, we're selling a professional, custom SEO site audit.

So without further adieu, I introduce:

"The Great SEO Site Audit Business Development Experiment"

You will get the following:

  1. A Thorough Architectural Audit Of Your Site. I will personally run a site crawl and point out problems with your meta tags, page content, interlinking, and overall site structure in plain English for you. This includes suggestions for how best to setup your content silos, where to focus your in-content links throughout the site, and technical suggestions for cleaning up any site problems as easily as possible.
  2. Site Performance Audit. I will take a sampling of the various main content page types on your site and do a performance audit and provide technical suggestions for improving the speed and performance of your site.
  3. Organic Traffic Audit. This audit will identify the stronger pages on your site, the keywords those pages rank for, and provide suggestions for improving those rankings to capture the rest of the traffic you're missing out on by not optimizing your pages as best as possible.
  4. Business Model Audit. This isn't something I will be putting into the tool (because it can't be automated) but I'll do a few page writeup about your site and my overall impression and advice for it.
  5. 1 Hour Skype call with yours truly. We can use the time to discuss the audit, your site, your business model, or anything else you'd like to discuss. You're free to record the call if you'd like, all I ask is that you don't publish it publicly (you may share it privately if you want).
  6. Free, Early Access To The Tool When It Launches. We aren't sure if it will be a subscription product or pay as you go, but either way, we'll hook you up with a bunch of free usage as a thank you for helping us hone in on the idea during this phase.
All of this will be done by hand, by me.

How Much For All Of This?

If I were still doing consulting, I'd charge about $2,500 - $4,000 for this service. But because this is for business model validation, not for core profit, you can get this for just $499.

Now, you might be thinking, "what the fuck is wrong with you dchuk, clearly you have better things to spend your time on."

Well, the reason I'm doing this is because I need your help. I want to bring this product to market but I want to validate the idea first with real customers before I invest a ton of man hours and capital into developing an automated solution for this.

So, I am going to dig in and do these by hand for a few of you, and all I ask is that at the end of our Skype time, I can ask you a few questions about the audits you've received and the idea in general. I will take that feedback from you and use it to shape the offering and identify whether I think the idea is viable or not.

What's In It For Us?

Hopefully in a month or two (my goal is the end of June), I will have a beta up and running. And if you take me up on this manual audit offer, I'll hook you up with an account with a bunch of free credits (or possible free months of service, I'm not sure if we'll be doing a pay as you go or subscription model).

Regardless, I'm going to essentially reimburse you for your $499 investment with free usage of the tool you're going to help me fine tune.

How Many Audits Are You Going To Do?

For now, I am hoping to do 5 of these audits. I'd like to work with 5 individual people, not one person with five sites, because I want to collect as much feedback as possible from different folks to really see what you think of this idea. If the demand is there, I might expand the offering for 5-10 more people to gather some additional feedback and data.

The goal for the report this tool will generate is you will either be able to turn around and hand it directly to a client in a pitch or use it internally to guide your site updates with the goal of improving your organic site performance. It will be fully automated, just put in a domain, select a few options, and go. In a little while, you'll have an audit generated that would cost you $XXX-X,XXX from a professional SEO.

Each of these audits will take me a decent amount of hours to complete, so I should be charging a lot more for these. But because I'm using these to guide the development of a new product, I'm willing to eat some profit in the short term in order to develop something for the long term. My loss, your gain.

So enough with the bullshit, let's get rolling. Click the big bad link below and fill out the Wufoo form and I'll get back to you after reviewing your details. Once I've reviewed your site a bit, I'll send over an invoice and we can schedule our Skype time.

ETA for these reports is approximately 7-10 business days from the time the invoice is paid. I'll be in communication with you throughout the process and will give you my Skype number so you can call me directly at any point.

PS: No review copies, no discounts for senior members, nada. You know who I am and these are already too cheap as it is.

Review copy plz?

In all seriousness, I just don't have anything running at the moment that requires this much attention, but if I did I would be all over this shit. Good luck and I look forward to seeing the fruits of your labors.

Thanks Brad, appreciate it!

Got a few people submitting their sites so far so I'm leaning towards doing more than 5 of these but I'll make that decision in a day or two. Going to get cracking on the first one tonight, hope to have it delivered by end of week and maybe get them to post their thoughts in here too.

If you guys have any questions about this, post them in here and with my second bump post of the day I'll answer them all, FAQ style.

Thanks!

Good morning everybody, things are rolling along nicely over here.

I'm going to try and get a few examples of what these audits look like online (with permission) in the next day or two for anyone still on the fence. Suffice to say, they are extensive yet not overwhelming. The whole goal of them is to provide you with an actionable set of information to work with.

Again, if you have any questions, post them here or PM me.

Badass.. if I was fucking around with SEO still I'd be all over this.

dchuk is the man... good luck and heres a free bump.

<3 <3 <3 hope all is well

I'm down. Between mine and my client's websites I'm sure I can find one that will work.

I shot ya an email yesterday and a followup today, just waiting on your reply.

Submitted.

Replying shortly.

This is cheap compared to what I charge for this shit.

Yeah, kinda taking a risk here in terms of time investment but it will be worth it if I can glean enough data from the experiment to refine the business offering later.

Filled out the form to give it a whirl.

Sending over invoice right now!

Just a quick clarification: I'll setup a timeline for the project upon payment of the invoice, not of the submission of the wufoo form. Gotta keep my ducks in a row :)

Same. My forensic audits start at $3k. May order one just for the insight that you may give that I overlook.

I still have two more spots open, waiting to hear back from some folks about payment but since it's first come first serve, if you are on the fence, now is the time to hop in.

Some more random information:

  • I've been running site crawls and looking through the currently active project's sites and am already finding lots of little low hanging fruit items that I think will definitely help boost the sites with little work.
  • I'm going to be proposing some more advanced options that are a bit more technical as well for you guys, stuff that most people don't really talk about.
  • All of the projects will be managed via Basecamp for organization and clarity purposes.
As always, if you guys have any questions, please let me know.

@dchuk correct me if I am wrong but I think that there is only one spot left now ;)

That's right! I actually turned down someone who submitted their site because from an SEO perspective they were solid but needed to focus more on conversion rate optimization and marketing. I might still consult with them though for fun.

dchuk invented SEO, so this'll be solid.

This is basically true. :eatmousepointer:

Tomorrow and Tuesday, I will have a bunch of updates posted for everyone. Spent the day today with family and am getting back to things first thing in the morning.

Monday morning update:

All site architecture audits will be delivered by the end of the day tomorrow (Tuesday). The performance audits should be delivered on Thursday and Friday of this week, and some of you will also get the organic traffic audits through the weekend.

I will be asking you guys via Basecamp what time works best for Skype calls next week. I will be traveling a bit starting Thursday (wedding outside of Chicago) so will be offline for blocks of hours during the process but will still be able to do calls on that Friday if that time works best for you.

Finally, I'm still taking submissions for more audits at this point...the feedback at this stage has already been helpful and we've been refining our plans here and things should be pretty sexy when we start building it out. So if you have an established site that you want fully audited, fill out the Wufoo form and I'll get back to you ASAP.

EDIT: I just warped time to answer the question in the post after this so as not to waste a bump:

Any Discount available for this ?

Sorry, no discounts as this is already heavily heavily discounted from what I would normally charge for an audit. Get it while it's hot!

dchuk's daily bump time!

Site architecture audits are being sent out today, a few have already been sent out. I'm in the process of moving this week so I am not able to sit down for long hours at a time, so you'll be seeing stuff come over at very random times of the day most likely. But I'm still chugging along, no worries there.

Even though the first 5 slots have now filled up, I'm deciding to open it up to another 5 people. Why? I want some more variety with the sites I audit so that I can fully flesh out all of the edge cases our automation system might be running into when we launch it.

It's fairly simple to look at a site and make suggestions based off of intuition because I've been doing this for so long now, but when it comes to thinking in terms of how a bot would do the same thing, things get much more tricky. So the more I'm able to audit in this phase, the more data and feedback I'll have to work from when we start building this out.

So, to reiterate: 5 more slots are now open for audits, come and get them.

I WANT A PROFESSIONAL SEO SITE AUDIT FROM DCHUK

All but two architecture audits have been sent out (one the project started a little later than the others, the other needs some pretty serious overhauling so will take a bit longer). Lot's of great things found in each audit that I think will help everyone out if they follow the guidelines I propose.

I'm going to try and post an example Architecture Audit here, most likely just anonymized so you guys can see what they entail. They're averaging about 8-9 pages long right now and cover all the main points of site architecture stuff, many of which are overlooked but can have a massive impact on your rankings if not handled properly.

A few slots are still open for audits, fill out the wufoo form and let's chat.
