Pretty wild, when it starts churning up structures it turns red.

There was a video I can't find now of a guy video taping the tornado coming right for their apartment complex just as they're getting in the storm shelter - he closes the door and shuts the video off. Then a couple hours later he starts the video up again as he opens the shelter door and everything is fucking gone. All you see left is a few of the stripped trees and piles of rubble. Buildings and cars are 404 not found. Shit is nuts.

I read somewhere that OK had something like 635 tornadoes the past 12 years...
That's like 50 per year...

I'd move

I drove from Ok City to Chicago the year of the Joplin one. We chose the northern route rather than driving through Joplin, but it was the day before Joplin got wiped out. So that was pretty weird to watch knowing our proximity. But no big deal watching TV.

On the way back a few days later, we drove through a massive storm full of tornadoes. We encountered, wall of water rain, huge hail, crazy winds, wrath of god etc. We listened to the local radio to find out where they were touching down to plan our route between them, when to wait etc. It finally got too nuts for us and we found a place to hide out. The next day as we completed our drive, we saw multiple locations where the tornadoes had crossed the road, trees stripped, buildings wrecked, cars in ditches etc.

Yes tornadoes suck but it's just part of life here like hurricanes and/or earthquakes are in some areas. A good thing about a tornado is the destruction is usually small (as in 1 mile wide at most X how ever far it travels) and you almost always have time to get out of the way.

Most of the 635 in the past 12 years are very small and don't do any damage.
