It's been a while since I have posted any non-conspiratorial info on WF and according to this thread WF has become a ghost town. This is a basic common sense kind of post. Its so basic many people dont even bother to think about it. But the big boys are deffinetly doing it. This is not going to be a how to guide to exploiting the senses. Just a primer to get you thinking about how you can apply it to you. Maybe you can "spam" the senses? Maybe you want to "arbitrage" the senses. Do what you want, but start doing something.
5 sense's = $$$$$$$$$$$$
Many people over look the value of peoples senses. But the 5 senses are critical to the sales process. If you can overwhelm 2 of the 5 senses your chances of making the sale will dramaticly increase. Capture 3 of the 5 senses and you're gold, money in "da" bank; cashing checks & banging bitches. Some people have to "see it", others want to "smell it" (new car smell), some want to "hear it", or maybe "taste it", everyone wants to "touch it". The more senses you "activate" the more primal people become. If you get it right, even grown adults will act like school children over your products. They will get captivated by it. And best of all they will need it, have to have it, maybe even fight for it.
Look at the pretty colors
People can't resist the strong use of color's. This applies online and off. I dont know if you have ever watched people get mesmorized by all the "pretty colors", like bee's to honey. It doesnt matter if you are selling online or if you're selling something offline, your color's matter. Sometimes you dont even have to choose the right colors, you simply need a lot of color. If you get this right your sales will go through the roof. The use of color's have had a profound impact on my bottom line.
Stimulating sight is easy;-) Ya right. People are constantly judging. They need the product on your site but for some reason they didnt buy. Odd's are what they saw made them sick. Maybe it repulsed them. No matter what it was they are not going to be buying. Sight is such a critical sense to overcome. It's so difficult that sometimes sight will take presedence over all the other senses. I have had products that were perfect and exactly the same as other products but a finishing detail gets moved slightly out of place, and the people wont buy it. You can fix it and explain that they all do that, but they will still pick a different one. Almost everytime.
Ohh it's so soft.
If you're not selling offline this sense is a lot harder to stimulate. But even with an online sale people are still touching. Even if they only touch their keyboard & mouse you are still activating their sense of touch. Some people will imagine they are touching your product, others will not be impacted at all. But they will have an expectation of how your product will "feel" If you're selling a "non-tangible" product the use of touch can and must still be used. There are so many ways to introduce touch into the sales process. If it's not your actual product, maybe there is a gentle touch on the arm or a handshake. No matter what the product touch is critical.
I hear dat
Sound, it can be used so many ways. It's one of the basic core senses. Are your customers hearing you? Maybe it's words, maybe it's a song, maybe it's the product, or the buzz of the crowd. No matter what people are listening, can you control what they hear? Just remember people know words are bullshit. Sight and touch typically take presedence over the bullshit comming out of your mouth.
Smell.
Just think Cinnabon at the mall. People smell those fat cakes and line up like sheep. Like the other sense's get it wrong and you're screwed. Another example of smell is Bath & Body works. The first thing they do in every store after the lights are turned on is to fire up the sented candles. Those sents are the very foundation to this billion dollar companies foundation. You cant walk past a Bath&Body store without smelling it, dont think for a second its an accident.
Taste.
Similar to smell. Unless you're selling food, this is a sense many of us will have a hard time captivating. Be creative. If you cant make them taste it, make them think they can taste it.
Dont underestimate the power of the senses. They are absoulutly critical to every sale. You dont need to hit on all the senses, but the more the merrier. Figure out how to exploit peoples senses, and the world is yours.
