Amazon Set-top Box Rumor

On episode #146 of All About Android (AAA) podcast they speculate if Amazon is looking to release a set-top box this year. Does anyone have the inside track? Do we put any merit in this? Does this mean we need to register some domains and start building a niche site on the subject?

Also with the news of Amazon Prime service possibly going up in price, do you have it, will you keep it, and do you care?

Prime is extremely cheap for what you get. Free 2 day shipping. More shows /movies than netflix. Huge discounts. Well worth it if you use amazon a lot.

They have been working on the box for a while, its called "firetube"
 
The more Amazon you use the better Prime is. Shipping alone makes it worth it, but I have Amazon Prime on my 360 as a supplement to Netflix and on the Kindle you can get free books once a month.
 
I'm really interested to see how Amazon does over the next decade. They have a lot of plans and they're involved in A LOT of stuff (shipping/shopping innovations, cloud/storage, partnerships, entertainment streaming, drones lol, big data etc). I've never had a bad experience with them and their customer service is easily the best I've ever experienced from "big retailers".

I thought I heard they received a ton of government contracts too?

Am I missing why such a high tech community would need any of this consumer stuff to stream movies to their TV?

I have a PC hooked up to my living room TV, and I stream files over the wireless network from my office computer.
 
sabnzbd+sickbeard+couchpotato+headphones+astraweb = all the music, tv and movies you could ever watch or listen to for about $7 a month

Convenience, simplicity.... girlfriend, wife, or kids that also watch TV.

I could easily hook my computer up to my TV, but I bought an Apple TV for it instead so my wife and guests can easily operate it without needing me for tech support and I can use the computer at the same time.

I did jailbreak it, install XBMC, set XBMC to stream from a network drive, and install some streaming plugins.
