This is the second time it has happened to me. I log in to analytics, check yesterday's stats and see it doubled. Later on in the day or the next day I check again and the double traffic spike is gone.

Upon checking logs, there was no spike.

What do you guys think? Bug or a way to fuck around with people doing SEO?

Google does nothing accidentally. They're testing you for some reason and your reaction has told them everything they need to know. Watch out bros.

Are you guys that are seeing the traffic spikes using the old code or the Universal Analytics code?

I am using the Universal version and keep seeing problem for the past week, oddly enough I am now ranking on the first page (again) for many of my keywords.

I notice this happens frequently around 6-8 am EST. I've never had this happen any other times during the day or night.

Same here, thought something went viral. Been happening for a while now and only for yesterday's traffic.

So glad i'm not the only one. I thought the universe was mocking me again.

New version

I notice this happens frequently around 6-8 am EST. I've never had this happen any other times during the day or night.

It happened to me in the wee hours of the morning/night and in the afternoon.

So glad i'm not the only one. I thought the universe was mocking me again.

I feel ya; sales spiked and I thought the bump made sense. The first time it happened I had had a few beers, I thought I was losing my mind and should stop drinking...
