Junk Mail outside North America

This is probably a stupid question, but I thought I'd ask it anyways...

We all know in North America, we get a ton of shit in the mail. Flyers advertising restaurants, food stores, real estate agents, etc...

Does the same thing happen in other parts of the world?

I'm talking places like South America, Asia, etc...

I guess in a round-a-bout way, I'm asking if the direct mail industry is strong outside of North America

In Mexico junk mail doesn't really exist to residences. People hand out flyers in public places, especially for cellphone companies. People here don't really use a lot of coupons either, they think it makes them look "poor". Fucking stupid, I know.

Thanks. This is the kind of info I am looking for.

Although you didnt mention Europe, in the UK it's possibly at the same level as in the US

not as much as in US, but in Ukraine I do get quite a bit of it. I thought I wouldn't.

This is a little more surprising to me.

I always assumed in Eastern European countries, there wouldn't be a lot of this sort of thing.

But then again, that was just an assumption I made, with no real rationale behind it.

Thanks

In Norway, there are stickers you put on your mailbox that basically say "no junk mail", and they pretty much work. Very occasionally, things get through that look like they're not junk mail, but it's rare. Before using the sticker, I'd say the junkmail volume was maybe half of what I had in the US. Of course, pretty much everyone where I live has the sticker, so I'm not sure who the junk mail is hitting, but apparently it's still worthwhile for the businesses to try.

I'd say two-three times a month I get some local (mostly) paper shit. Wouldn't say it annoys me cause sometimes I even look through them (but hardly ever use)

Poland, UK a lot.

Thanks

In Japan you get small packets of tissues handed to you on the street, with the advertising as the "backing sheet" for the packet. Not kidding either (here's the wikipedia page talking about it) - I collected so many, pretty much didn't need to buy toilet paper....

We also got normal junk mail in the letterbox as well.

When I lived in Turkey I used to get junk mail, but very few actually in my mailbox. It would be more like stuff put outside your door. Comparable to the US but way less.
