After a few months work I just released my latest mobile project for iOS devices.

The app is called Tag A Cat and it is a free social image sharing app like Instagram but exclusively for pictures of cats. Tag A Cat and http://www.facebook.com/tagacat

The idea came to me after my last year of backpacking. I would always take photos of cats I saw while traveling because I thought it was interesting to see how cats lived/looked in different parts of the world. Rather than just share the photos I took I built a platform for everyone to share their photos. So now if you want to see cats in Japan you can just travel through the app. After our first month we now have over 100 photos and over 100 users and photos from 11 countries.

Growth has been slow since it seems I am not very good at marketing and this is my first time with project of this type and scale. Currently running Facebook app install ads but seeing horrible results of $2-3 per install on a free app. I figured I would start this topic to show my latest project and allow others to ask questions if they have any about its development. Also I would love to chat with anyone who has had experience launching a project like this because I have no clue what I am doing atm.

Is this a serious project that you intend to grow big or is it just for shits & gigs? I personally can't see it getting any large amounts of users as it is, I think you need to find an angle that works better for marketing than 'look at other peoples random cats' like... 'find your cat a friend' or 'cat dating'. lol.

Seriously cat dating? Thanks for the feedback, I did sorta ask for it I guess. But I will hold off on any major changes considering the app has only been out for a month... cat dating...

You can populate your image feeds far more quickly using the major image-based social networks' APIs. Cat photos are almost always tagged with something.

Yes Matagascar is right.

If you wants to get it bigger, probably you need to change the topic.

Yeah, cat pictures on the Internet. Phfff, how could THAT ever be a big thing?

Idiots.

You could try to contact them and see if they'll give you a shout out or something. There are probably other big FB cat pages too but that's the only one I know of.

I should add this facebook page might actually be really good for you since it's basically centered around taking pictures of your cats. Can't get much more targeted than that.

I would rename the app to CatFAP. Make it freemium and let them upgrade to CatFAPTurbo for 99 cents. This will remove the kleenex ad block you'll be running on the free version.

You should team up with Cats of Instagram | Daily doses of original, cute, cat photos or at least actively target//message users on instagram who do the whole #CatsOfInstagram shit.

Instagram
Instagram

Yeah i know of these guys. But they have their own cat empire and have not responded to messages/emails I have sent.

Never really thought about this. The system requires users to sign up to share photos ala Instagram.I can see if I can work it into the app but its probably best to stick with user submitted stuff.

Banner Ads on le reddit?

They never click on these ads. For 3 weeks my add was on /r/cats and /r/aww it resulted in no installs or clicks the best I can tell.

I did not know of this page. There are so many of them hidden away, Facebook needs a better search system for related pages. 1.8 mil likes!

You need an endorsement from grumpy cat.

Seriously tho, what do you think of Swift?

I haven't looked into swift to much. To use it I would need to update to the beta xcode and I don't want to do that and mess up my current stuff. This fall ill really get into it. They say its faster and easier so why not?

Your keywords are really bad, you didn't even max out the 100 characters bro. PM me nigga.

Just shows I have become more of developer than a marketer for sure. I swear a few years ago they allowed 5 words max. I never looked into app store SEO.

I don't even know where to begin belittling this thread. All I can say is it's quite obvious you lost your business and went on the road for a reason.

Have some pussy:

To be fair, my FB feed has a rake of 'cat enthusiasts' that post nothing than statuses about their cat, pictures, memes etc. I reckon a 'cat lovers dating service' is a niche reading for the taking.

You should tell them about this new app you found. You will fit right in.

Cat lover dating I could see I bet there is money in that for sure. But he didn't say "cat lover dating" he said "cat dating" making it hilarious.

App continues to grow, everyday more people join and post more photos of their cats. Its a solid app idea and the users seem to love it. Just a matter of time as it continues to grow.
