I wrote a long post but here's the short end of it

  1. I'm preparing for my interview to get into medical school. I've spent the last couple years sitting the entrance exam (called the GAMSAT here in Australia) and recently scored quite well.
  2. I am leaving my job in a month to pursue preparing for the interview, preparing for a surgical procedure (possibly 2) and some rehabilitation
  3. I am going to spend my time between August 1st and next February learning and working towards my other interest in life - web design and creating a business. I'll only be working around 18 hours a week at the next job - giving me plenty of time to focus on everything else.
I'm sure most of you don't care about points 1 & 2 (but if you've got any questions relating to the MCAT / GAMSAT I'm here to help!).

I am looking for some assistance with point 3.

Point 3 continued

  • Medical Niche (will reveal site later!)
  • New Website - no competitors. "Borrowing" the business model from another similar website in a different niche
  • Goal is to be making $100/day and then scale into private advertising.

Consider me the ultimate noob. I am happy for any advice/help people are willing to give!

I'm using the genesis theme which I find to be pretty good and has a lot of opportunities for customisation.

With that said I feel one needs a decent level of programming knowledge to get things to look the way they want.

I'm saying this because I would like to set up my site <a href=http://www.wickedfire.com/traffic-content/180595-building-authority-content-help-future.html">like this</a> where each page will have it's own category that the posts are a attached to. This single page will be continuously updated with information from the posts (these posts are displayed below the main text article).

For example

Page (Title: Category)
XXX

Post (category)
Post (category)
Post (category)

However category page will be de-indexed and not crawled. In the off chance that this page is crawled I'll just use the built in feature (which doesn't allow any text editing and I've looked for 1000 work arounds to get one) with a link pointed to the main page article.

However I've been spending a tonne of time trying to figure out HOW to get genesis to do this - I'm thinking I'll have to pay somebody. I've found various codes that allow me to do this but "not exactly".

What I've tried

Custom Category Page in Genesis | MattsAffiliateJourney.com

and a few others.

Most of the issues I have are with the post structure that is output - doesn't look anywhere near as good as the original loop from the blog section.

Quite surprising since I wouldn't be the first to want this.

I used custom page plugin and set it up to pull in subpages / posts from category to make the page a super page :)

I checked out the plugin, doesn't look to be too good for me as I haven't got a lot of programming knowledge. I'll be learning some programming in the next few months :)

Today -

Reworked some posts into pages...and have begun writing posts. I'll sort out this issue with structure later - at the end of the day I'm getting absolutely 0 traffic!

I've also got Google Analytics and Webmaster Tools set up but those will come in later I'm sure!

My main goal for this website over the next few months
1) Get a lot of GOOD QUALITY content up. I want to write it all myself since I'll be learning and it'll transfer over to other avenues in life later.
2) Learn to program to an intermediate level so at least I know what is going on!
3) If I can make some $$ in that time it would be awesome!
