It's all about pic selection, basically.
Most guys have terrible profiles. If you're a marketer, it should be pretty easy going, unless you're quite literally a troll.
You're not lying. After implementing 1 weird trick to my photos I have messages in my inbox everyday. This one little filter works accross all platforms!

Bro, the chick sees your photo and it's literally "would I fuck this guy or not". It's not like girls actually take the time to check out what you wrote; it's purely based on looks. Especially when you consider that these chicks are getting hit up by 100+ dudes a day, they aren't reading what sports you are into.
Another thing is that since all the attractive girls are getting so many messages, probably upwards of 300 notifications a day, they are going to be a lot more picky too. It's like even if you are above average looks wise, as a guy in real life, on Tinder you are not because the amount of messages they receive.
Used to live in a town with one of the top 5 largest universities in the country and needless to say tinder was amazing. I'll never be able to wash off the shameless whore off my dick. Good times. Nothing quite like seeing a text from dwight schrute in the morning and responding with a picture of a fresh creampie while he eats cereal with his kids.

actually got in the 500s before i ended up deleting and resetting my account, this was with an autoswiper though and gps spoofed to the center of a large college town in my state.
tinder changed their algorithm either in 3.0 or 4.0 that makes it impossible to auto swipe and pull these numbers now though, you get flagged as a bot/spam and get sent to the end of the queue indefinitely. dat tinder sandbox. selective swiping gets me about 15-25 a day though.

When I talk about the profile it's pic selection I'm predominantly referring to -- not writing 500 words about how much you love long walks on the beach and saving animals in rural scotland. If you put up 5 selfies then you're not going to get any matches, because girls are going to think you're a lonely serial killer.
Most guys put zero thought into their photos and just chuck a load of random ones up. You have to get into the mindset of thinking "what would someone think of me if they only had one pic to judge me on" for your main pic, then think that again for all say 5 pics you have uploaded.
If you upload 5 pics of you drinking in a bar, then a girl's gonna assume you're an alcoholic. 5 pics of you in suits and they're going to think you're a prude.
If you upload a pic of you with your dog, another in a suit, one of you skiing, another mountain biking and one of you chilling on the beach with a few friends -- they're going to think you're an interesting person that has lots going on in their life. Girls will naturally gravitate towards that because status/confidence is to a decent degree as important to them as looks is to guys.
Most the girls I know that use it swipe right for basically 1 in 25 guys. They'll look at your first pic to do a quick maybe/no, if it's a maybe they'll then go through your profile/other pics and decide whether it's a yes or not.
Having model looks is obviously a massive help, and will mean you can get away with choosing much shittier pictures, but an average guy with a well thought out profile can do well too.
If you're not getting matches and you're not hideously ugly, then you've chosen a shitty set of pictures.
