Guide: Making Money Promoting Ebay auctions through CL & phpBay blogs

I was also wondering about the auto responder how you said it will only reply once? The first time the e-mail is from craigslist anon e-mail address and when you reply, you reply from your (google?) e-mail address and then if they respond again, they've now responded from their personal e-mail address. So they actually get 2 responses correct?

Or does that software somehow get around that?

sorry hope i'm not getting too off-topic, I've been wanting to try this method and was about to actually reply to the first craigslist/phpbay thread for more information on an autoresponder.

You're always getting email from their email address, not a Craigslist address. The anonymous, random email address in Craigslist is tied to your email for that CL account, not theirs. It's so they can't see your actual email address. But you're getting email responses/inquiries from their actual address.

So if you're doing it manually (small scale, like me - for now at least)...then you're not using an auto-responder and you can actually respond to additional emails from the same person if you like. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. Because I'm not really selling the product myself and I'm just passing them through to an ebay auction...I don't usually waste my time on correspondence with someone. Either they're gonna click through and buy something from ebay or they're not. Me taking the time to email them back multiple times and try to answer questions isn't worth it.

Two phrases on this post why affiliate marketers...it looks like a lot of work & it is kinda expensive.

???

Admittedly the auto-responder is kind of pricey. But it's not required by any means. So that leaves phpBay Pro ($40), a domain ($7 if you don't already have one) and hosting (which most everyone here probably already has). I wouldn't call that expensive.

A lot of work....well, yeah I guess it kind of is. I'd love to hear detailed suggestions on automation. I'd like to take an automation idea and try it out. I just don't have the knowledge or time to figure out how to automate it (particularly the Craigslist part - without getting ads flagged/deleted all of the time).

what I meant to say is 2 reasons affiliate marketers give up or never get started is...it looks like a lot of work and is kinda expensive.

I think the guide is a cheap way to make some money.

I'm pretty sure you can use specific zip codes in each post? its the 5th phpBay parameter

[phpbay]wii remote, 50, "", "", 90210[/phpbay]

That might take some of the work out, not having to create a seperate blog for each city, just a seperate post.

Good guide, I used to do this with my BANS store, but i think its actully against the eBay TOS. Luckily, phpBay encrypts your ebay links, making it harder for someone to report your PID.

You could also expand this to other classified sites like usfreeads.com

I didn't realize you could include zip code in phpBay. That must be a newer version that allows that 'cause the documentation I have with my version (which I got back in November I wanna say) doesn't say anything about that.

Great guide - really should look at craiglist sometime. I agree with whoever suggested WPMU - in fact I've been working on automating MU setup for a different project, would be much hassle to adapt it - give me a shout if you like.

Remember guys, there's plenty of other sites around like craiglist. They might not have the same traffic, but then they have less competition and less busybody users clicking 'report'.

Does anybody have any suggestions for a cheap auto responder with a time delay. I want to be able to use it with a free e-mail account such as gmail or hotmail. If the e-mail is sent more than once I don't mind as long as I can automate sending e-mails.

The attitude of doing only things that "look easy" is the quickest path I can think of to failure.

Now back to your regularly-scheduled thread.

Well since this was only my comment, and not my attitude, I think I am OK. I was mostly trying to show my appreciation for slackerguy's post.
