Of those of you out there making in this crazy marketing world- Where did "teh internetz skilz" come from in your career?

Just trying to see how many people came from related backgrounds and formal education versus self taught.

Shit like code and scripts just looks like fucking silly talk to me as of now, but I have no background in any of this.

And speaking of silly: These are silly big!

I went to college for business management but I learned how to program on my own. One day I was sitting in the computer lab around 1998 and right clicked on a web page and hit the view source button. After that I picked up every book and web page that I could and just learned. By the way you are going to be killed for using the boob icon and not showing any boobs. Big no no on this board. We take our boobage serious.

HOLY MARY MOTHER OF CHRIST!!!!

LOOK AT THE FUCKING VEINS ON THOSE THINGS!?

"Wipe that smile off your face, they're not big and they're not clever"

Ok, maybe they are big.

University of Hard Work

Everything you need to know to make money on the internet is 100% free and available to you right this second. The choice is yours young Skywalker. For you pick it, it does not pick you.

I've been using online communication since I was 6 (1989), and was old enough to know better before the pedophiles noticed that the internet had started being available here in Australia. BBS stuff mostly until the early 90s, when most internet layers were FTPs, remote programs run via TelNet or Gopher, and the W.E.L.L. helped me cheat something chronic on school assignments.
Back then, you had to know how type and use command lines to use the various nets, and you usually had to directly connect in to other people's computers to do it.
My dad and brother taught me how to use it all... I come from a big nerd family (yes, we all have bad hair).

From there I've got my stalki-- forensic skills... what was requisite knowledge to even use it has become a valuable commodity, thanks to how easy it is to use the HTTP layers of the net now.

Everything else has been knowledge sponging and looking at code and trying to figure out what it does by removing it and seeing what happens when it's gone.

I thought I was wearing 3d glasses when those things popped through the screen.. wtf kinda of crazy doc would put those things in?

I got Computer Science and Math degrees, it all didn't come together though until I figured out I had to learn about business and marketing as well. So don't worry even those of us with technical backgrounds have a lot to learn in the other areas.

Did a maths degree, and computer science masters. Computer science masters taught me nothing about search engine marketing or internet technologies. All I learnt was Java, assembly language etc...

It wasn't until I quit my shit job and went on the dol that I started getting interested in making money online. So I learnt dreamweaver in 2 weeks and started a site which is bringing me good amounts of monies.
