Google has just sent an email to all their publishers that they will be stop or “retiring” their Adsense referrals as of the last week of August. The Adsense referrals were still in beta.
From a publishers point of view I tried implementing the Adsense Referrals on few of my website but it was never profitable and making me enough money. Their adsense CPC was always making me money than their referrals. Also the uptake of the referrals wasn’t great either due to the above reason.
Though they are “retiring” their adsense referrals google has started up their NEW affiliate network. This will bring alot of hype in the affiliate marketing world and alot changes will be seen. There are rumors that this will hit small affiliate networks and causing them to shut. Time will only tell though.
In order for google to get this network going they will need to have a good payout for all their publishers. Their payouts will need to be competitive with other networks so that the big affiliate marketers will promote their products.

Its not new... you are right.
DoubleClicks / Performics, whatever
Google acquired them in March of this year.
Expect the branding to flip to "Google's Affiliate Program" by August

way more competition, alot people still don't know about AM and once they do know about it, it will cause more of them to compete

You know what...upon actually reading about this...

So Google starts it's own affiliate network. Ok, fine. So we're paying Google to advertise on their network/site...to push their offers.

Wow. Just wow.

Where does it fucking end?

I do not think it will make the affiliate world harder, because Google will not touch the "dirty" niches, like email submits and pharm.

I do expect a great service from them, but bear in mind, not every Google product is a hit. People still use wordpress.com, their groups are great but there are still others, we still use msn adcenter (well, that is because msn surfers have tattooed credit card numbers on their forehead and their webcam on).

Also, when was the last time you spoke to your Adsense manager and asked him to up your cut?

But, yeah, it will bring more competition to the affiliate world, just like adsense did.

Anyone really surprised?
They are now 39% complete on their plot for world domination
When armies around the world start using Google Earth, they will get +10% on that. When they start using gmail... see any "pinky and the brain" episode.

Shit man ! Google is just everywhere .. they want every piece of pie

I agree, I don't think you will see email submits from Google where you have to buy $5000 worth of products to get a free Xbox. Has anybody here used referrals? I thought it was a freaking joke. I guess they had to buy somebody to have a decent interface.

Side note. Google is looking more like Microsoft. Instead of focusing on their core products they are branching out into other territories. MS with the Xbox, Google with the g-phone. In a few years two guys in their garage will be stealing market share from Google. At least this is advertising based, which is what is Google's business.

As far as I see it. Google will replace CJ. I don't think they'll enter the space of networks that have real account managers, customer service, grey area offers, and all the rest. If I were CJ, shareasale or linkshare I'd be concerned. But the copeac's, ads4dough's and cpaempires I don't think have anything to worry about.
