Washington -- The Justice Department has quietly hired one of the nation's best-known litigators, former Walt Disney Co. vice chairman Sanford Litvack, for a possible antitrust challenge to Google Inc.'s growing power in advertising.
Mr. Litvack's hiring is the strongest signal yet that the U.S. is preparing to take court action against Google and its search-advertising deal with Yahoo Inc. The two companies combined would account for more than 80% of U.S. online-search ads.

yeah we all know that google is trying to take over the web & you know what... I say a BIG congrats to google, fuck the jealous naysayers google has worked hard from start to finish and they deserve their success.

They have a monopoly (which is against the law). It happened to Microsoft, it will happen to Google.

Does anybody actually remember why Microsoft was hit with that antitrust case?

It's because they packaged IE on all of their OSs for free (this is back when browsers usually cost money). Netscape and others got jealous (even though you could still buy their products) and started screaming 'monopoly'.

Fuck this lawsuit. Nobody uses Yahoo anymore because they couldn't keep up with all of the great shit Google keeps churning out. It's pathetic that if a company does extremely well in this country, they have to worry about getting sued.
 
I am not sure why people are defending Google.

I know I would feel a lot safer if they were not the only game in town.

They are merging doubleclick and google ad serving cookies.... They are huge as shit and we have no idea what they do with half the data they gather.

If they had to sell off some things I would feel much better and would level the field a bit. I mean really who can compete with them for serving ads? And not just because of their system. No one has the numbers to compete.
 
Fucking nailed it there for me.

While the law may not seem fair, limiting your success, but it'll only help us in the long run. What if Google decided to ban you tomorrow and you relied on them to make a living? Your fucked! No where to turn to.

I hope there is an anti trust against Google.
 
So do i, bring it on. They have way to much power - saying how people can and cant link, giving ridiculous penalities for nothing and ruining peoples income.

Agreed. The data part is what really scares me. Although it slams what we do, Google Watch has some good info on Google
