Does anyone know the story behind this tld? They are giving away free domain names.

CO.CC - Free Domain name registration + Free DNS service.

I may be mistaken, but co is the domain, .cc is the tld. So any .co.cc name would be a subdomain of co.cc

You can reg .cc at many registrars - godaddy is one of them.

Yeah, basically .cc is the domain TLD. The have registered CO.CC - Free Domain name registration + Free DNS service.. Now they sell subdomains eg. 123shituidu.co.cc

I've found their DNS setting to be fucking unreliable, so I wouldn't recommend.
