I'm at a point where I either sacrifice research or sacrifice linkbuilding, so I'm thinking of hiring someone 1/2 time to fill in the gaps. I'm just a little stuck as to what type of employee I should be looking for. I try to do really surgical drops, so just hiring someone to drop 500 links in bullshit directories is out.

For those of you who have staff, can you share any advice or lessons learned when it came to you hiring staff to monitor PPC campaigns or drop links?

Hire somebody for linkbuilding. Any monkey can do it. On the other hand, anybody bright enough to manage your PPC campaigns, should be doing it for themselves.

Well any monkey can link build yes, but there are ways of going about it that goes above and beyond directories/articles/bookmarking to the masses. If you have a solid products/business/content site then that's usually where I come in. There are a lot of authoritative and quality links to be snagged out there and if you sit down and look at all your options you can really end up benefiting in the long run.

So BB, for the love of god stay away from something like forumlinkbuilding.com....I just did a post on their $7000 forum posting package. Nickycakes would have loved to rip into these guys lol. For example, without tooting my services, the folks at We Build Pages would pwn any link builder found on all the webmaster forums including myself.

I am actually thinking of doing the same. My indians are good, but someone more familiar with the US market would be better.

Did the developers you hired on Craigslist work from home or in your office?

Ive hired cheap web devs off craigslist and had good success. Indians dont seem to get it IMHO (see dig point et al)

Second on the ODesk. Usually find quite a few people who know what they're doing, plus you can check their work as they do it. I use ODesk for a few projects. Their interface is shiite, but for what I use it for, it's enough.

I met a few of the WBP peeps at Scary SEO, was impressed.

I won't use WBP obviously as we have some customers in common markets, but the caliber of employee that you have is exactly what I'm looking for. Was hoping I'd find someone at IM Spring Break this year, but need someone a lot sooner!

I'm going to post an ad on the local university's website. They have an IS/MBA program that may have a few people who would fit the bill of being qualified and as well as being creative like the WBP people.

Will say though, that you have a young woman who is sticking a shitload of content on Twitter that is incredibly immature/unprofessional and a total turn-off for any would-be customers who fall into the 'good ole' boy' category... So the customers I've landed have said.. Those customers use Twitter too and know what your employees write...

ouch.

So much for earning BB's business....

in case your thinking of hiring in house - one word of advice is not to hire someone just because you like them and you personalities mix well... resist the temptation and hire someone who really wants to work instead
