I think we need to exam the definition of Irony again.

Irony: the use of words (or pictures) to express something other than and especially the opposite of the literal meaning.

However I'm thinking there is some irony in the fact that this thread FAILS at irony by using fails as irony...
 
Well, my use of the fail blog pic for irony was that childhood, as represented by the playground, is this classical safe and magical place, especially when viewed through the golden eyes of nostalgia (which often has a warm photo filter over it, looking like a calm, warm Sunday afternoon where everything smells of daffodils).
This illusion is then shattered by the snakes and poison ivy, both which are literal facets of real childhood in the first place if you honestly remember it, but also fantastic metaphorical representations of the neurosis that children are filled with, and often have forced upon them by well meaning adults, for the rest of their lives.

...Or maybe that was just my childhood...
