Got my e-commerce site started, running a few small facebook ads, and nobody has bought anything yet. Nobody has actually added anything to their cart yet.

So Google Analytics says there's a 75% bounce rate, is that pretty bad?
Avg time on site 1:07 and avg page views 1.5.

I run a gift shop site that gets slightly better than that but not a great deal better.

You need to concentrate your ads exactly. Don't be generic, use precise phrases for instance if you are selling wine, don't just advertise for wine. Name the grape or the vineyard if it's famous enough.

Your ads should look more like this;

Landermans Cabernet Sauvignon
Deliciously smooth, with a fruity after taste.
30% off during April.

Not like this
Lovely Red Wine
We have some at our site
Come visit this lovely site.

I'm not saying your ads like this but you get the idea.

The customer knows what to expect when they get to your site. Less bounces this way.

Expect a bounce of between 50% and 60% it takes time to build an ecommerce site remember you are competing against all the famous companies out there and especially Ebay and Amazon, your site needs to be smooth and quick, check how long it takes to load a page, if it's too long people get pissed off and give up. I know I do.

It's all relative, my most profitable LP has a very high bounce rate with the traffic I run it it. The traffic is not expecting the landing page of this type so plenty of them take off soon as they see it, but it sucks in enough of them. I could pay more for clicks for traffic that would not bounce as often but I can pay so much less for this traffic it's more worth it.

I monitor bounce rate for all my pages. Yes I do notice sales does increase as bounce rate decreases.

I will always try to make sure that the incoming traffic comes from a good source. Then only any changes done to the site will be worthwhile. Normally I'll try to keep the rate below 65%.
