Looking for some advice on what a good ctr is for a non targeted teeth whitening banner. I currently have an average ctr of .1%. Any advice is appreciated.

RON is by far the most difficult traffic to get attention from and convert with any offer. If you can find something that works well, you can do insane numbers.

.1% is pretty bad. You need to split test the hell out of banners to find something that'll get you .5% or better.

Targeted traffic aimed at a demographic can get you 2% or better with the right offer/ad. With that CTR and a matching conversion rate, you can also do huge numbers.

doesn't a lot of that depend on the offer? I've never come CLOSE to a .5% conversion and have multiple campaings accross many niches (not all free trials / health/ etc) that return well over 100-200% returns.

A 2% CTR is amazing- per your other post on media buying I'm utterly speechless with amazement/jealousy!

That was a .5% Click Through Rate. Not Conversion. If you've never gotten a .5% Ad CTR or higher, you're not testing ads enough. A 2% Ad CTR on an optimized campaign with a high demand offer is doable.

At the end of the day, it's simply math.

  • You need to get a decent CPM rate first and foremost.
  • If your Ad Click Through Rate is low (below.35%) you need a higher Conversion Rate to make money
  • If your Ad Click Through Rate is high, you can get away with a lower Conversion Rate
  • If your Rate is Lower or Higher you have to have higher or lower combinations, etc etc
$1.50 CPM with a .35% CTR and a 2% Conversion Rate is a 49% Return

$1.50 CPM with a .7% CTR and a 1% Conversion Rate is a 49% Return

$1 CPM + 1% Ad CTR + 1% Conversion Rate is the sweet spot.

Can be tough to get without an insane amount of testing.
