First time I've ever talked geo-politics on any forum, but for any of you who haven't been watching the news for the last week, take a minute to take a look at what's getting ready to go down tomorrow in Persia.

My roommate's Persian and my eyes have really been opened a lot about how this is effecting people across the world.

Whatever side of issues people are on, I always give much respect to anyone who is willing to give their life for a cause they believe in. Especially if its civil liberties and individual freedoms.

Prayers go out to our Iranian brethren as they march tomorrow.

I have been against most use of force by the United States for a long time. I was against going into Iraq for example. I was for knocking over Afghanistan after they wouldn't give up Bin Laden - but that was a reaction.

Iran on the other hand is run by a bunch of nutbags. The Iranian/Persian people hav a great history as world innovators. Right now they are being held down by religion and a select few assholes.

I hope they get their justice in the street.

I'm almost certain it's going to die down within the next few weeks. Whatever the outcome, keep in mind our government had ample opportunities to intervene and they chose not to. That doesn't have as much to do with Obama as some in this thread would like to believe, but moreso with our overall foreign policy towards Iran. In particular case, intervention is not favorable as it would significantly raise oil prices. As much as our government would like to remove Ahmadinejad from the helm, a stable transition of power is very unlikely.

any time we've ever tried to help iran, we've only royally fucked up their country. I have nothing but support for them, but I question our ability to make things right for them. this is their fight, and it's not up to us to decide their fate.

having said that, I really hope that the violence settles soon. it's awful that the modern world still experiences such things.
