how would you go about clearing your name when people are dragging it through the mud?

not to mention when there is zero justification behind it, really it's getting to a point where it's irritating me something fierce ...


just lost yet ANOTHER client as a result ...

without naming any names (aside from mine) my name is Kyle, I'm a former employee of a large "exclusive" affiliate network (again won't name names) and have worked with former people in certain online mailing and online blogging realms that are extremely mainstream and names everyone (and i mean everyone) is familiar with.

I can't pin-point exactly who is doing what but there is only a handful of people I've been in contact with since I started doing online affiliate marketing (pub, network, and advertising).

I was contacted by a member this evening about hiring on a PR consultant / Private dick about finding who it is and finding a way to end it. Which I feel might be an appropriate way to go about doing it (or a waste of money *shrug*).

All in all - I attempt things with a very whitehat approach - I come from an Internet background I've been in this shit since '95 - long before most of these people knew what the Internet was - let alone how to manipulate it.

All I've tried to do is establish a presence utilizing my unique skill set and background and employ the techniques i've learned - and frankly - somebody is slashing my name and I'm getting tired of it.

If you've had any similar experiences, please don't hesitate to post up how you might have gone about clearing your name. Please remember that the people I'm referring to are now successfully in the seven, eight, possibly nine digit range.

summarized: somebody is talking shit on my name - claiming i'm not trust worthy, sketchy, etc etc.

trying to figure out a way to a) find out who it is and b) get them to stop as it's not true.

Most people don't just get drug through the mud if they aren't doing the right thing. On occasion yeah it could happen if you rub someone the wrong way. But still.

This one time i shared a picture of a hot young underage girl wearing skittles knee highs with my friend chris. He was like Dude you're a sick ass pedo and I'm going to tell everyone! and I was like NO WAY DUDE! So I logged into his forum account and posted the pics and now he's the pedo.
It was good times had by all.
 
Who cares? You either have a good rep or not. One or five people talking shit about you ain't nothin.

If you aren't a douchebag, surely you have better contacts and relationships than random WF members.

nobody said they were WF members .. they probably are .. but non-contributing WF members.

it's the fact I've had three independent contracts / contacts fall through as a result.

I've gone to setup a deal and out of the blue, no phone calls / emails are returned and if I can get a straight answer out of anyone it was: "I was told not to work with you" .. "by whom?" .. "can't say" .. like wtf?

I am far from a shady character and have no quarrels with putting my reputation on the line (obviously as I'm posting publicly about it). It's just cutting into my livelihood and frankly had wondered if any members of WF have had any similar experiences.

I'm saying that if you are who you claim to be, and have the experience and skills you claim to have, then it would logically follow that you probably have more helpful relationships and contacts online to help you address your problem.

As opposed to say, oh, posting in a shooting the shit subboard, on a known gay webmasterforum filled with complete strangers, most of whom I am convinced have significant mental retardation.

Have you googled your name to see what is being said about you? Is your ex employer spreading the rumors? If theyre completely false and he's just being a dick, sue him for slander. If he's banking 9 figures a year he might just give you a nice severence package and make you whole again.
