I have never hosted a blog contest, but I have entered a lot of the ones posted on SweepsAdvantage.com. They're each set up a little differently. From what I can tell, the sites are usually giving away promotional items that that have received from a sponsor. Sometimes all you have to do is leave your name to enter, or say why you'd want the prize. Other times, they want you to click on a link and comment on the site you just visited.
 
This is a contest i read at NicksTrafficTricks Besides this is how backlinks are created.

Besides Did no one apperciate the 8 hours it took me to upload that template and fix it because the idiot who made the template had stupid instuctions like

Put Chitka Right Next to adsense google wont get pissed!!!! or the fact he messed up some the instructions.

Or how about the Face that i have a bunch of great articles on saving money and making money fuck me!

This forum frustrates me to no end i fix the template now people bitching about the domain who cares you clicked the link to get their not like it took you 2 extra seconds to type the blogspot.com part fuck me.
