Thing is, while automation would be the easier route that also takes away the personal touch and is likely going to make it look spammy. Can't tell you how many link exchange requests i get, where it's more than obvious the guy just replaced the name and url with my site name and url. Personally i rarely respond to these, however, this is people already linking out to geocities sites, so maybe they won't know what to look for

It would be better to not automate it but with this mass amount of links, that would be the only way I could see to make it worthwhile and just try not to make the request too spammy.

I´d pick out the gems and contact them personally.
There are some very juicy and old links available.

@dhamma, good strategy. That would be the best way I could think to go about this. Hit the best ones personally and automate the ones you could live without.
