Which hosting do you use? What is most important for you about hosting?

In your eyes, is it a serious advantage for an affiliate program, if it offers free hosting to all of the partners?

Please, advise.

Best regards, Seopharmacy

I use www.websitesource.com . Their shared hosting plan is like $6.95/month w/ a year contract, 50gigs of space, pretty much unlimited sites, subdomains, email addresses, etc. They also are easy to deal w/ , have great tech support, and don't care what you are hosting on their servers (good if you are going to have a porn site...)

Hosting providers

I've looked at quite a few of them, and I would pick DreamHost over any other company. They've been there for a while, their prices are cheap, and the bandwith they give with their packages is more then sufficient for almost anyone (the basic package has 1terrabyte of bandwith per month)

Cheers,

Speaking from experience, I would say avoid the budget resellers, like ResellerZoom, etc.
Be prepared to pay a minimum of $20 a month and go for a recognized name.
Also, it's a good idea to test their support line by asking some lame question either online or by the phone.
A good host is gold. :)

hmmm- i misspoke.. 5G of disk space and 50g bandwidth. This is the basic $6.95/month service- if I hit that limit soon I will be very happy. I am not sure what the control panel is called- but its pretty easy to navigate and upload files. You can always go to the site- they have live chat 24/7 help desk...

here's the site...

I personally like Lunarpages, and GoDaddy, and HATE Dreamhost. Out of all the hosting companies I've used Dreamhost was the worst. Half the time I couldn't even FTP to my site, and Tech Support's response was "wait awhile". After the first 2 months, I abandoned all my sites on Dreamhost accounts (if the domain was regged with DH) or moved the DNS servers to another host. In some cases, I just parked the domains.

Lunarpages and GoDaddy have given me some of the best service and support ever. With either company if I have a problem, I just call them and they'll either explain exactly what is going on (in the case of updates and technical issues on their end), help me figure out the problem or fix it over the phone. Also, with both companies, I rarely have to contact them about problems. So far I've contacted LP once about a problem, and about 6 or 7 times for general help. GoDaddy, I've only had one problem so far, and when I called they said it was on their end and they were working on it (actually they went into more detail, but I forgot what happened). After about 15 minutes it was fixed. :D

Also speaking from experience I don't see any reason not to go with a cheap host if you are starting out..one that has cpanel if you are a newbie. There are some cheap hosts that are a real pain but I have some that are great. Go month to month to test a host out and then go yearly or more. It is so simple to move sites from one host to another and only takes minutes.

If it is simple arbi you could go with even a free host ( I have 2 domained sites with 50webs-no cgi or php though)...many allow you to use your own domain name instead of a subdomain..you don't have to purchase the name from the host you are with.
I have about 8 different hosts I use.

Dreamhost is nice with unlimited domains but is very very involved if you start using various scripts. Dreamhost is basically run very different in terms of their server operating system setup. I have setup different scripts on dreamhost and it has been a pain sometimes. Dreamhost is not a newbie host. They don't use cpanel.

I have never found a perfect hosting company. They all suck in my eyes, you just have to find the one that sucks the least. Read reviews online.

I've used GoDaddy, Bluehost, and now Dreamhost - I'm sticking with Dreamhost. :)

I dont mean to hijack, but when it comes to hosting, do you guys prefer a single account with addon domains or reseller account with completely seperate accounts for each domain? right now I have reseller...

What do you guys think about HostMonster? I've heard pretty good things about them, and was thinking about going with them. Opinions please! :)

I've been pretty happy with IX web hosting. They are fast on help tickets, always send an email if a server will be down for maintenance and give you free extra domains with hosting accounts.
