Where can I learn how to design a wordpress layout?

I am just interested in a simple looking wordpress layout. How hard would it be to design one?

Also, download a few themes that you like and look at the code. If they're done well, you can learn a lot from them.

This tutorial helped me grasp the concepts of how WP works: Build a Newspaper Theme With WP_Query and the 960 CSS Framework | Nettuts+

Even though they use 960 you could apply most of the info to any design/layout you like.

I personally use artisteer. There are also alot of tutorials on YouTube that show you how to create a theme using photoshop. If you are good with designing from scratch maybe checkout that route.

+1 for artiseer, very easy to use and only $50, I know of a few web designers that actually use this for their client work

I realise I am a little late to the party, but consider downloading some themes from Andreas Viklund They are simple, basic themes, but good clean php and css - very easy to pull apart and make sense of
