I think it's about time I get a more serious business setup going on, so I am going to set up an S-corp for my business ventures. I have everything all planned out except I'm stumped on the naming part.

I will be using this company name to do business with CPA networks and other businesses, so ThooperDooperClick, Inc. probably won't work. Also is it gay to have "Enterprises" as a part of the corporation name?

How did you guys come up with a name for your business entity?

In Canada when you reg a biz name, the last word in the name must be descriptive of what the biz does.

So if you're opening auto mechanic shop, the last word "Automotive" would be suitable. Any word (s) you put before can be anything.

Don't know about the USA

Make Monies Online Enterprises Inc (or MMO Enterprises Inc)

Everyone will know you mean serious business!

whatever you name it- keep it as common and generic as it gets.

- make sure the entire name, or at least main word is available as .com and register it before you walk out to the registration office irl [some domainers have backend feeds into reg offices and will jack your companyname.com the second you've filled in papers and the clerk puts your information online. you'll get home to find out companyname.com was registered 2hours ago [?!]

- don't include any kind of url. as a business owner you will change, sell, buy new ones, reg new ones, old ones become dormant etc. etc. looks very silly when introducing yourself and you'll have to change the name to something global after some years

- keep the name short. long ass full sentence company names don't even fit on visa plats. the day you receive that card and read the broken print, how embarrassing is that?... so, consider it right now.

- keep it generic. if you're going to be successful, you're going to be making phone calls more soon than later. how difficult is your company name when you're asked to spell it out letter by letter in front of an <insert-eastern-nation-here> sales desk? does the name have - _ | symbols that 1/3 of the world has no clue what they are, because it's not a part of their alphabet?

consider these wisely, and basically just... keep it simple and dapper.

KEEP YOUR NAME/INITIALS/ETC *OUT* of it.

there are many reasons for this, but try something like "

this. I'm no CPA or Attorney - but I hear that if you Inc/LLC under your name, or anything to do with your name, you could quite possibly be held personally liable. (im not sure about the validity of the statement) but just hearing that is enough for me not to use anything to do with my name.

for me it's the same reason I don't drive cars with personalized plates nor act/live/look flashy.

zero upside (besides potentially ego stroking) and a lot of potential downside.

take a look at the named operations of those in this business who are the sketchiest people out there and you'll find they do just this.

"Creekside Ventures"
"Kondelee Group"
"Fast Cast Media"

etc

(these are completely off the dome and aren't intended to imitate anyone).

The point being the names are just a big nothing: professional ambiguity.

Then DON'T make your tracking urls "creektrk.com" (in the first example name) - but instead make it something again ambiguous- like "clickalyze.com" and instead of having clickalyze.com resolve to your p202 (or other) login page throw up a 4-5 page corporate microsite complete with a remote mail forwarding address and 800 number that forwards on there. On the site talk up your amazing web analytics technologies and stick on an investors page noting that you're looking to raise capital. Are you the next mediaplex and these links are just running through you for analytics purposes? Hmmm....

If you break the law will this keep you insulated? No. However it will certainly not make you stand out like a sore thumb for any junior paralegal who's looking at a ton of sites to rope into a list of defendants and make their job that much harder.

Of course this doesn't stroke your ego- so if you're into being flashy and getting your name out there this isn't for you. I'll take any extra bit of security in an insecure world over ego though personally.

No it doesn't.

I have a name registered and I have no descriptive terms in the name at all.

You clearly have been speaking to the wrong people.

1. Go to the dictionary.

2. Now open it up to a random page and randomly point your finger at one of the words. Good you have your first word.

3. Repeat Step Step 2 for second word.

4. Combine together.

5. Congratulations! You have just discovered your new Corp Name!

How Dis Shit Works

You will get a retarded combination of words, like ElectricTree or PillowHard.

People will be like, wtf? Cause they can't understand it. They will think you are more intelligent than them since they don't get it. And people will find you superior.
