A couple friends and I started a small t-shirt operation late last year.
I was actually the last cog in the machine. My two partners are
artists, and their connections have have critical in getting this
project off the ground.
However, our lack of funds and time have made it hard to make any
real progress. Needless to say, we're still in the red. The good news is
that we're on the verge of making our money back, which, as most of
you know, is always really exiting. Even though we'll be investing every
last penny back into the company.
The better news is that we've been nominated for a $10,000 grant.
Which will help us get this bastard off the ground, and making some real money.
We also hope to donate a lot of money to a lot of great organizations
in the process.
Our shirts carry powerful messages, but we aren't naive enough to think
that messages alone will bring about change. For movements to gain
traction, you need cold hard cash. Which is why we donate $2 to an
important cause with the purchase of every shirt.
Why Do We Need the Money?
Right now a single member of the project is funding the entire operation out of pocket. This limits the ability to order shirts and print
them, and once this is done the operation is on hold until the limited
supply of shirts can be sold (which is slow).
With the grant the company could make larger purchases that didn't
depend on another job to fund. Having a larger stock would enable the
project to exhibit at larger venues and generate the ability to sustain
itself. In addition to fueling the ability to maintain the current designs it
would open up room for new development.
The intention was always to have this project be reactionary. BP spills
oil? Lets make a shirt and get the word out but with funds tied to old product, quick movement like that is temporarily impossible. Being so
close to DC, where legislation on theses issues is made, I would love to
have people wearing these shirts as very public reminder that these issues
are real and need to be dealt with.
*Anyone with some artistic ability that would like to raise money for a
charity of their choice, and make a little coin on the side, please get in
touch.
I can also tell you that if we win, we'll be investing in getting a decent
website up, because what we have now is honestly a bit fuckin'
embarrassing for me since this is what I do for a living...
Now you will have to register to vote, but it only takes a second,
and it doesn't require you to confirm your account or anything.
If you would just take a second to make this gay webmaster's day, I would REALLY appreciate it.

Again, thanks a lot guys, and hopefully there isn't anything in rules against
trading boobs for votes.
