Thought I was smoking something crazy when I heard this one

I think the flaw in the flying car idea is that people are too dumb to drive regular cars on the ground... flying car fender bender = fatal

Think about watching a 16 year old girl try to parallel park now imagine her trying to land a small aircraft LOLZ

It only requires 20 hours of training/schooling to fly, so I think the appeal is that you can fly quickly and not go through a serious training ordeal like a pro pilot would.

Even still, they have 70 orders booked already, I can see a lot of people buying these. How high does it go through? I think you have to stay low to the ground so you can land quickly if you need to.

Flying low is bad. Altitude is your friend since it allows you more choices to land if you have a problem.

Prediction: Mad super affiliates be getting merked like crazy in this. Smoking hole in the ground central.

You don't need to rent hangar space. You don't need to buy aviation fuel. It's manufactured so you don't have all the liability issues of resale you would otherwise have with kit planes. If you make regular 3-4 hour drives you should be able to drive to a local small air field, fly to the closest small air field near your destination, land and fuel up wherever you're going, all without fucking around with taxi's or rental cars. You could do SF to LA on $42 of gas and leave any time you like.

Doesn't sound too bad at all to me.

How much mpg does it get while flying? And how much fuel can it carry? Because it doesn't seem like it would be able to make that trip on 1 tank of gas.

30mpg on-road, 5gph in air, 20 gallon tank, 115mph cruise, and 460 miles range flying range. SF to Vegas is 405 miles, and SF to LA is 330 miles which puts both within very reasonable distances.

Plus if you're a pussy, it's meant to have a full parachute system option.

I think it's a great idea. Nearly every area outside of big cities has lots of small municipal airports that can be reached within 15 min. or less.

On top of that from the looks of it, a well made grass strip could be good enough for take off.

Altitude wise I'd say it should do similar to a C-152 and shouldn't have any problems getting to 10k.

now we just have to give 90 year old women licenses to drive them and nothing will have changed

LOL at the people bitching about aesthetics. It's a fucking flying car. Pretty sure they had a couple of other priorities more important than pleasing your gay gene. Like maybe aerodynamics. Buy one and paint it pink if you need it to fit more with your tastes.

Flying cars, it's about time.

Flying cars? Sounds like a waste of time to me. Drive your car to an airfield and fly a proper plane or chopper. You can pick up a decent Cesena, Grumman or Robinson for a lot less, and get a decent car.

I can't park my Cessna at Mc D's now can I?
