A couple of months ago I was on a horror movie kick.
I watched a ton, but the one that was most memorable was "Martyrs".

It's an intense, disturbing, not-for-the-squeamish French movie.
Reeeeeaalllly fucked up (but in a good way, imo).
Definitely one of the best horror movies I've seen in years.

Long list: The Best 1,000 Movies Ever Made - Reviews - Movies - New York Times

I am bewildered as to how you listed such a great movie as run lola run and followed up with one of the worst movies ever made. Just goes to show how different everyone's taste is.

Shooter, with Marky Mark? I've heard other people say they hated Shooter, but I really don't understand why. It was directed by Antoine Fuqua, who directed Tears of the Sun and Training Day

Yes I agree that it should have been a good movie with the director and Mark Walhburg (the man has done some good work in previous films) but the acting all around was terrible, plot predictable. I felt like I was watching a really bad 90's van damme movie(and that's saying something since they're all pretty bad).

yes, it's certainly not the best movie I've ever seen, but all-in-all I liked it. If you really feel like scratching your eyes out, watch Observe and Report, the absolute worst movie of the last 10 years. I could make a better comedy with a cast of mutes and a blind camera operator

I guess I'm not much of a film critic because Shooter is in my Top 5, probably Top 3.

Rounders

Se7en
The Talented Mr. Ripley
The Wrestler
Legend of the Shadowless Sword

Knowing
Fallen
Dogma
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
The Silence of the Lambs

Braveheart
The Beach
Basketball Diaries
Benny & Joon
What's Eating Gilbert Grape
Mulholland Drive
Enemy at the Gates
Meet Joe Black

Anime:
Final Fantasy Advent Children
Paprika
Appleseed

I'm just going to assume Godfather I and II haven't been mentioned because they are the two best movies ever made and go without saying...

So here's a sleeper for you - if anybody liked Hotel Rwanda, there is a much better movie on the topic that is not watered down by Hollywood so it might be hard to watch for people (too realistic) but do yourself a favor and watch Sometimes in April - one of the deepest movies I've ever seen and it blows Hotel Rwanda out of the water. I made the mistake of seeing this one first and couldn't even sit through Hotel Rwanda because it left so much shit out and watered down the story so much. Amazing movie.

A couple of other good ones I didn't see mentioned, Traitor (Don Cheadle is great in this movie) and Five Fingers (great twist).

damnit gunny there's only so many seats at the table...

Marky should get his own list:

The Big Hit
Shooter
Corruptor
Italian Job
Boogie Nights
Basketball Diaries
Departed
The Yards
Three Kings

That's all I got without "cheating"... but a damn impressive list for the guy who sang feel the vibration.

Speaking of great movies from someone who (in my mind) has become an icon in Comedy: Will Ferrell

If you can't quote lines from any of the following movies..... I feel sorry for your mother:

Talladega Nights
Old School
Step Brothers
Anchorman
Semi-Pro
Blades of Glory
Elf
Zoolander
Night at the Roxbury
Austin Powers

Someone above mentioned one of my all-time favorite actors: Don Cheadle

For the longest time, Cheadle was the Steve Buscemi of action/crime dramas... the guy who held the movie together/made it worth watching but never got a leading role.

Colors (wayyyy back. Not enough 80's movies in this thread btw)
Traffic
Manic
Swordfish
Oceans 11

Then Hotel Rwanda hit (I havent seen the 'less watered down' version)
Traitor
Crash

there's others, but you get it: Cheadle is the fucking MAN!

Fuck... probably more neg rep coming for this long winded post...

I hope netflix gets their shit together and starts offering a better instant download menu.

oh btw: FUCK CUBA GOODING JR.
