Jumping in feet first

Hello Everybody,

I only joined this site about 6 days ago but what everybody seems to be saying more than anything is "Just do it", so I have decided to jump in feet first and try to learn as much as possible while following the advice on here in the various forums. I figure even if what I am doing is wrong then I will learn something.

I have been reading up on all this stuff in the forums and recommended blogs etc and my head is spinning...you can only retain so much and then you forget and have to reread stuff you have already looked at...so without further ado...

My plan is to do the following in more or less this order...

1. Try to join an affiliate network.
2. So some research to find a niche (preferably something I am interested in)
3. Check the affiliate programmes for some offer/product relating to the niche.
4. Research keywords.
5. Decide on either:
a. PPC - with or without a landing page.
b. Create a website containing articles/info etc. relating to the product and use SEO to direct traffic to the site.
6. Set up tracking
7. Learn what I am doing wrong while attempting all of the above.
8. Keep reading.

Would this be a summary of what I should be doing or am I missing something really obvious? (I am completely new to all this! )

Thanks for reading,

GoodSpud

PM me if u want an unbeatable deal on ur hosting complete with help setting up and being a baller.

I would avoid PPC and try free traffic methods.

In regards to keyword research. Find keywords that have more than 100 daily visitors and less than 100,000 results in quotes. 100 visitors per keyword does not seem like alot but when you multiply that times the number of keywords it makes sense.

You will also want to cloak your affiliate links to help protect your sales.

Research your niche, keywords, and ability to earn money before your purchase a domain.

Take the time and do research first before you jump in.

134 views and nobody has said I'm on the wrong track...I'll take that as positive feedback and get my arse in gear :)

Thanks to those who commented.

OP,

I'm at pretty much the exact same phase as you. I'd PM you for contact details if I could.

How's your luck on getting accepted by an affiliate network? I've tried a few so far, but most ask detailed questions about experience etc.

You might want to rethink #2 two though. One of the most important parts is finding markets/phrases where people want to buy.

Not saying you can't sell something you're interested in but that comes secondary.

I find the whole process of selling to people interesting, that's my interest, the actually product itself is almost irrelevant.

One newb to another, just be real with them. Tell them you are starting out and you want to help contribute to their network. If the turn you down, their loss....for now. you can return to them later with stats to backup your application.

Another thing I have learned in the last couple weeks.....calling them goes a lot farther than just turning in an application. If you get denied or you dont know how to answer some things in the app....just call them.

The biggest thing of all is taking action, and doing it daily.

I agree. I hav learned it's not about WHAT you are selling, but about the process of getting the person who wants the product to your site & getting them to take action. I have become obsessed with the process rather than the topic/item.

Once you nail down a process & message that gets results.....you can multiply into whatever topics/products you want.

I haven't actually applied for any affiliate networks at the moment. I have decided to get to grips with a few other things first so I have more of an idea what I am talking about when I do apply.

So far i have:

1. Bought a few cheap domains.
2. Got some hosting - check out 5quidhost.co.uk. They have a free try out option which was activated within about 30 mins of applying. I will upgrade to a larger bandwith, disk size when I need it. they seem very cheap as well.
3. Pointed the domain to the host nameservers.
4. Installed wordpress.
5. Added plugins - as add each plugin, I read up on it to see exactly what it does. As I go through each step i am reading, but try not to get bogged down in too much detail.
6. I'm going to write a few articles to post on my site, 3 or 4 should do to begin and get the ball rolling.
7. I'm then going to look at SEO and ways to get traffic to my site.
8. At this stage I will start applying to affiliate networks. At least I will have some kind of a website to show them.
9. I've decided to stay away from PPC for a while til I have more of a clue about what I'm doing- I'm tight and don't like losing money :) and as far as I know you will lose money at this, at least in the beginning.

Make good use of the search function in here as you go along. You should find out most of what you need to know...at least I have so far.

Yes, I agree, I only intend to promote products which people are looking for with interest as a bonus which would make article writing that bit easier.
