hes a customer at the store i work at.
one day he came in and asked if i was good at making web pages, but i said no.

then he came back in another time and asked if the owner of the store was interested in advertising.

now since i have been researching AM just for personal gain, i put two and two together.

he came in today and i asked him what he was going to do for the owners business and he said he would "get you to show up on the first page of google with a video". And also "offer vouchers for people who see the advertisement" or something like that

I straight up asked him if it was affiliate marketing and he hesitantly said 'partly' it was. he said he was a freelancer but was with an affiliate company. he told me what the company was but NOW I CANT REMEMBER and its driving me crazy. it was like "web2.....something".

small world i guess. he actually offered to sign me up for something.

would i be able to actually benefit from knowing any other local AMers or is it just competition?

There seem to be many local SEO and ppc forum and blog post these days, maybe this is one of it ? Not sure about the legitimacy, but if you are new to online marketing and seo/ppc, it may be good to get in touch and learn from the guy.
If you, much of the info you can get from here or other marketing forums; just be careful not to read TOO much before taking action

Are you looking to achieve that?

If your competition is average, it can be done in 1 - 2 weeks.

LOL doesn't surprise me, jump on any non webmaster/tech forum with at least 20,000 members and you'll find seo/affiliate marketing threads. It's a fast growing industry, luckily most of them are noobs who max out at digitalpoint knowledge.

It never hurts to know people, but I find a lot of local "SEO experts" door-to-door salesmen don't know shit.

I hate these fucking "SEO Experts" that start with 'I'll get you to page 1'

Congrats you know how to use Google Adwords? (Amazing 1st page!... with an ad)

Gives the rest of us a bad name.

Can teach techniques, but can't teach creativity and certain aspects that the noobs can't comprehend. That's why I love it.

Maybe you should jump on the bandwagon and try to help the business out yourself, fuck that kid. Just expand your game from there if you're worth a damn.
