100 Day Small Budget SEO Project- Daily Journal

Memorize the top 20 results in Google. Seriously. You should be able to recite your top 20 competitors from memory for your main keyword. Dig deeply into their backlink profile (don't buy tools, use site explorer and just look at where there links are coming from). analyze their keyword density, site structure, image usage, etc.

Since yahoo is so fond of exterminating good sites lately, Yahoo Site Explorer could very well be the next one, which is the best tool to replace it?, free or paid doesn't matter.

I don't think they'll be killing Site Explorer any time soon, and if they do, I believe Bing is going to be launching their own. Paid, you can go with Majestic or Open Site Explorer. I've used OSE before, it's pretty awesome, getting better each day.

Days 10,11,12,13 - Wickedfire decided to take a shit but I managed to get a lot of work done. Fresh content is being posted everyday and I'm starting to see a small amount of back links being indexed everyday. I DID check my rankings on Sunday and plan on checking them once a week just as some motivation to keep working harder. I've been working mainly on Web 2.0 sites but have also been manually submitting directories. I will be mixing in some blog comments throughout the week as well.

For my #1 keyword I was ranking 124th in google for the broad position.
For my #2 keyword I was ranking 100th in google for the broad position.
For my #3 keyword I was ranking 161st
For my #4 keyword I was ranking 260th.
Total invested so far: $112.90.

As part of my plan, I check my ranking once a week on Sundays.

For my #1 keyword, I am now ranking for 91st in the broad position. Gain of 33 spots.
For my #2 keyword, I am ranking 66th for broad position. Gain of 34 spots.
For my #3 keyword, I am now ranking 132nd. Gain on 29 spots.
For my #4 keyword, I am ranking 127th. Gain of 133 spots.

I'm hoping to get within the top 45 this week.

My plan to keep steady back linking has been working well. I did as a test blast my website with 5,000 xrumer links and about 10 are showing up each day. I'm slowly pinging about 50-100 a day to provide steady, slow backlinks. I know it was a risk on a new site, but I'm hear to learn what works and what doesn't and that requires some risk.

I also purchased a few blog commenting services from a few wickedfire members and they are in the process of delivering them. I also bought a 2,500 directory submissions at 100 a day from stevejobs. I've been confirming emails and will report how many accept my link within the week.

Update: I'm starting to see more and more backlinks being indexed everyday. Over the past 4 days I'm getting 50-60 backlinks indexed which is steady for a new site. I have a feeling I can get in the top 30 in many of my keywords this week.

Moving on up again this week:

KW 1:
Broad - 21
Exact - 16

KW 2:
Broad- 42
Exact- 63

KW 3:
Broad - 40
Exact - 48

KW 4:
Broad - 184
Exact - 176

That's just in google, my bing and yahoo rankings haven't moved.

just use this theme and move on, no reason to worry about your theme this early in the game: WordPress › LightWord « Free WordPress Themes

Focus on adding content with semantically related keywords to your site and do link building every single day. I would assume you have a lot of time on your hands, so there's no reason you shouldn't be spending at least 5+ hours on your site per day.

Build 2-3 sites at once so you can stay fresh and be more robust.

DONT CHECK YOUR RANKINGS DAILY. Just build links. Write content. Build links. DONT CHECK YOUR RANKINGS DAILY.

Don't buy services in the BST if your budget is $500. spend that money on buying High PR commenting lists and thats it. Add 2-3 articles to your sites per day, build links for 4 or 5 hours a day, and in a month, reevaluate. Do you have money to reinvest now? ok, spend that on more content and good links. Maybe buy some Amit's bookmarks. Maybe a small mini-net.

Pick up a copy of scrapebox and use it to scrape for High PR targets. Don't spam with it if you haven't done it before, you'll just end up with low success rates and be frustrated. Use it to create small lists of PR 4+ targets.

Don't get hung up on analytics, just keep building.

how many links to you build per day, per site?

Wish you success, and you will certainly attain it with daily positive action. My biggest piece of advice would be:

Since you are writing your own content, and it's EXTREMELY easy to get burnt out (even when passionate), it's best to write fewer quality articles than a bunch of mediocre value. Yes, we all laugh at Matt Cuttts from time to time for spewing the quality content line but there is actually more ROI in this.

Write 1 quality article and backlink it for the 1-5 related keyword phrases. This way 1 article can receive all those related searches and convert much higher since it's a quality article. The worse thing you can do is chase the searches with writing more articles; it's simply not going to work. IF the competition is low enough perhaps you could win up to 25 phrases per article (if all related)

only about 40-50 uniques a day. I'm not ranked in the top 10 yet and I believe I actually lost my ranking this week a bit.

Got it, expected something like that...
But from keywords you are targeting ? That 1-4 ?
Or at least something similar ?

Probably the best newbie advice there is. +rep

Well, in light of the recent weather I haven't been able to update my journal. I will be updating this with my plan for the weekend tonight. Things are going smooth so far but still can't crack the top 20 for my keywords. The niche really isn't that hard, I just believe I need to find higher quality links.

Alright, he's my big update. I haven't been moving much lately in the serps despite many new backlinks being built each day. I've done an evaluation of my backlinks and I've noticed two problems: Too many low quality links and not enough diversified links. Most of my links are from xrumer services that I haven't been pinging as well as some blog comments. Too get some more diversification I am going to focus on web 2.0 sites and mid pr article directories.

I researched and developed a list of about 25 article directories with pr 2-4. I'm going to use highly spun articles which I also edit and add extra information in each to make them a little more unique. I will be posting into 15 tomorrow and 10 on sunday. For my web 2.0 properties I plan on submitting unique content to squidoo, zimbio, gather, and helium.

Finally, I am hoping to buy a small xrmer package to these 4 web 2.0 properties as well as the hub I already have setup. I figure a nice 10,000 package spread out over those 5 pages along with about 8-10 anchors will definitely help me out. I'm going to check my rankings tonight and will do so in a week to see how my plan worked out since I am doing no other linkbuilding.

Well, it was a beautiful day so I spent most of the day outside. I still managed to get some things done. I managed to write 5 pieces of unique content and spun them each 5 times to post on pr 2-4 article sites. The original content will be posted on my web 2.0 sites that I listed yesterday. I also further analyzed my top competitor's backlinks and found a few auto approve blogs that I could post comments on. I also posted on multiple article directories and will be pinging them after my mini-case study is complete tomorrow or monday.

Well, it's been a few days since I started my mini-cash study. I made sure to ping all of my links from web 2.0 sites and the article directories. Overall, here is the result:

Keyword #1 - Started 29 - now 27
Keyword #2 - Started 31 - now 24
Keyword #3 - Started 29 - now 16

I'm thinking on purchasing onthewayup's mini-net service to see how powerful it truly is.

Update 5/9

Well, my 100 day project is about halfway through and I've seen a great leap in my rankings over the past four days.

Keyword #1 - Was 27 - Now #9
Keyword #2 - Was 24 - Now #8
Keyword #3 - Was 16 - Now #14

Hoping to get in the top 4 this week. I plan on adding my final 7-8 pages of content and posting on some more high pr blogs.
