on a related note you mentioned spammed forums... just say the site we were linking to was legit, would it effect it any negative way due to the fact it has links from such forums...esp. as it looks unified (over many forums)... so you could assume it was planned.

Speaking from my experience,
For very new sites, this service might make Google look for "more trust" in the website pushing it back until then.
For established domains, this would only help the rankings. Wouldn't effect the site in a negative way at all, otherwise it would be too easy to harm others.
Just my 2 cents.
