It's probably a flippin' stupid question, but I guess asking won't hurt my fragile psyche (well, the n00b bashing may have this effect, so be kind :rasta:)

There is this website called 1on40. They say in 120 days they'll make your website reach top spot on Google and other search engines for 5 keywords of your choice... for free (they say it's kind of a beta, they'll start charging after the testing is done). You can geografically target your traffic and also choose what you want to achieve (purchases, leads, subscriptions etc).

I don't know, it sounds too easy to be true. I decided to give it a go anyway (I registered with my "spam only" email address) and I submitted a Squidoo lens in Italian, choosing five extremely competitive keywords. Let's see what happens.

The question is... why should they do it? Email harvesting? And also: let's say they're actually going to do what they say... how do you think they'll do it?

Let the bashing begin :anon.sml:

P.S.: if it works I'll post boobs (and a fake Paypal screenshot of course)

well. there is a business model attached:

"We will NOT ask you for any sort of payment until you see your web site NUMBER ONE on the TOP 40 search engines to include Google and Yahoo for all 5 keywords you have ordered."

"This page will change to an easy to use bidding interface as soon as your web site is 1st on the Top 40 search engines. You will have 7 days to make your bid. If you miss the bid deadline someone else will bid on your keywords and your site will plunge back down Google’s results."

could be interesting, however i am still not sure, whether this is their true business model or whether they have a hidden agenda.

Hahahaha...snort...hahaha

Yeah, just throw them "US of A" as a region and "travel" as keyword or "ringtones", maybe "credit card"

Ya right.

Well, the keywords I chose weren't any less competitive, trust me.

Anyway, thanks everybody for not shattering my ego THAT much :)

Well the domain is registered in the Russian Federation. That should be a clue right there.
They're probably more likely to get you banned from google rather than at the top of it.
