I think btc should be given another purpose. They should halve the difficulty to mine but force 50% of the computational power to solve http://folding.stanford.edu problems. Then at least we would get a cancer cure out of this whole deal.

There's plenty of other metals out there that are just as rare, have more applications and better physical properties that are magnitudes cheaper (such as tungsten, W). A tonne of tungsten is about $50,000 whereas a tonne of gold is $50 million.
Is it just our perception of it? because gold is bright and pretty with lots of history? This table shows the abundance of each element on the periodic table. Even Nickel (Ni) exists in similar quantities to gold (Au).

Got lucky yesterday, sold at $97, and bought in between $65 - $73 until my order was fulfilled. Was quite happy with myself, until I seen it drop into the low $50s today.
I would imagine it will head up to around $100 sometime in the next 36 hours though. Here's to hoping at least!
If it falls under $10 I may take a bet on them but other than that I wouldn't be buying them

With all thats going on, Bitcoin will be long forgotten over the next few weeks or months. I would guess its going to be well south of $50 in short order. Keep a close eye on it, there is going to be some real buying opportunities in the very near future.

Gonna pass on BitCoins though. I can't get excited about speculating in an illiquid, unregulated currency that isn't being used as medium of exchange.
Ohhh, I don't care about this money anyway, and besides, it's only a few grand. One of my long-time clients prefers to pay in cash, but since I now live 12,000kms away, it makes meeting at a local cafe a little difficult, so he now pays in BTC. Instead of pulling it out into cash, I just play around, and day trade it now.
I don't know what to think anymore. At first I thought it was a total joke, and this could never happen, because in the real world currency hashes are totally useless. But then you see guys like Kevin O'Leary on Canadian national news basically endorsing this thing, so I don't know. Maybe these guys are right, and there is actually enough distrust in government nowadays to prop up a currency as ridiculous as computer hashes. Who knows, time will tell.

Nope, wasn't actively looking to do it.
I don't invest in short-term stuff like this, not even stocks. I have more than enough stress from my startups. I stick to real estate and mutual funds for investment.
