TL;DR:

1. The OOB theme now labeled "Twenty-thirteen" got a face-lift.

2. New post formatting.

3. New revision tracking and navigation.

4. Autosaving. Wordpress now stores a local copy without requiring the user to hit "Save" or "Update".

5. Post-locking. When a post is being edited, it can be locked to prevent simultaneous editions.

6. Menus got a remodel and are "more intuitive".

Nothing too dramatic, but the most significant update over the last 12 months and a fairly good indicator of the changes to come in Wordpress 4.

Why do companies feel the need to add a bunch of stuff? Just give me the most stripped down, secure, and speed-optimized WP and I'll be happy.. In the same regards to vBulletin 3.8, it was legendary, and then they go fuck it up with vB 4 and 5.. Adding a bunch of unwanted stuff that slows it down... Really? (Well vB really fucked up even more so, they ignored everyone's requests, and just went with their own ideas, which all sucked).

With 3.5 they got rid of the ability for users to easily choose what path their image folder had, which was annoying if you ask me (I don't want /wp-upload in the URL).

I actually had someone make a plugin for me that fixes this easily if anyone is interested I will give for free.

The new stuff they're doing with Post Locking is cool I guess. Like one of those articles suggested though they're just going to keep copying more and more shit from Tumblr.

As someone who keeps the lights on via client work, these additions are small but welcomed. As an AM, these don't mean anything, but if you're an idiot who doesn't know what Wordpress even means (majority of my clients), these are helpful.

And if you've ever run a content-heavy site with multiple contributors, the editor lock is actually very useful.

Post locking feature is pretty cool for collaborative sites.

But WP has become pretty bloated. It's a shame they stopped supporting their 2.0 legacy version.
